Gaming appeals to a much greater audience these days, and subsequently has many of the less "hardcore" players who are unwilling or unable to spend dozens of hours mastering a game. Thus, developers tend to include options for varying degrees of difficulty in their games. This is necessary because the quality of games we have come to expect from developers requires money from a bigger amount of people than the "hardcore" section of players can provide. This is not a bad thing, as the money allows for more technological advancements in the field and more exploration of those new technologies. One need look at the development of things such as motion controls and facial animation techniques for examples of this improvement.

Also, it's not anyone's fault but your own when you play on the settings intended for casual players and beat it easily. People tend to forget the bad when they look to the past and quite frankly it pisses a lot of people off when people like you compare everything ceaselessly to this bullshit "golden age" of gaming. This kind of selective memory benefits no one.

I don't intend this as a personal attack, but more of a commentary on the kind of "the past was great, let's do more of that" mindset that I'm finding more and more prevalent in today's society. It's not only annoying, but also encourages stagnation and laziness in those who subscribe to it.

The complaint about games being easy pisses me off.

There's usually a difficulty setting. Set it to how you want. But I fucking dare you to play New Vegas on the hardest difficulty and fight the legendary bloatfly without using any explosives. It's damn near impossible.

If you want to play hard games, find some, don't bitch about it. Not everyone can be so hardcore they can finish every game they play within 3 hours.

Its not that their easy, they added all the 'cheats' that you could get before in to the game in some way.

For example: To be invincible in Skyrim, all you need to do is max your enchanting.
Boom, unlimited magicka and hp if you do it right.

most cheats or 'unlocks' are now in the form of shitty DLC. I remember playing the original Spiderman game on ps1 and doing the aunt may cheat to get all the costumes. Now, you have to either pre order the game or spend 10$ to get them. Rather sad D:

The only recent game I can think of with cheats is SR;TT

games nowadays focus on multiplayer, so it would be slightly unfair for some people to have cheats
