Many old and famous scientists and mathematicians were very faithful believers actually. Newton, Einstein, Galileo, etc.

Einstein explicitly stated that he doesn't believe in a higher power. Check your information before you post it.

That's not true, he didn't believe in a personal god, but he did believe in god.
User avatar #492 to #459 - crazyhindu ONLINE (03/07/2012) [-]
okay so basically we would have all this cool shit and stuff and like we would have flying cars that run on rainbows if religion didnt fuck everything up
User avatar #848 to #492 - nyxie (03/07/2012) [-]
Who said we would have that? Family guy?
User avatar #1344 to #848 - crazyhindu ONLINE (03/08/2012) [-]
i do believe that you do not understand exaggeration
User avatar #1350 to #1344 - nyxie (03/08/2012) [-]
I know what you meant. Would technology really be so advanced though? Do you know that for sure?
User avatar #1351 to #1350 - crazyhindu ONLINE (03/08/2012) [-]
no but things would be much different
User avatar #1361 to #1351 - nyxie (03/08/2012) [-]
Yeah. The beautiful, old art we have today probably wouldn't be here, we probably wouldn't have the freedoms we do today, and we would follow logic and instinct more than love and feelings.
User avatar #1379 to #1361 - crazyhindu ONLINE (03/08/2012) [-]
plus last time i checked religion took away more freedom than it gave
User avatar #1378 to #1361 - crazyhindu ONLINE (03/08/2012) [-]
what the fuck are you talking about i never said religion was bad i mean like im okay with religion im religious hence username i just mean religion fuck stuff over like idk oh yeah gay rights, science, the medical field and the list goes on and on im talking about like religious nutcases
User avatar #1386 to #1378 - nyxie (03/08/2012) [-]
Well not all religions. I'm crazy about science and sometimes I doubt Noah's Ark. Or at least the whole, flooding the whole planet thing. Who says it holds back science and the medical field? My religion believes God to be the greatest scientist and mathematician.

And people like Galileo were punished by the church for their discoveries.
User avatar #484 to #467 - MysticTomatoe ONLINE (03/07/2012) [-]
which is why the Church has 'changed' over the past centuries. Sadly, i believe there are still many aspects that the Church needs to adapt to, because people change and so should they.
User avatar #476 to #467 - timeforsp ONLINE (03/07/2012) [-]
Same with Copernicus, but that doesn't change the fact that they believed in god, I'm guessing you're more against the catholic church.
User avatar #475 to #467 - nyxie (03/07/2012) [-]
Not all churches are great.
#464 to #459 - flomo (03/07/2012) [-]
I have read that newton was kind of an asshole though
User avatar #473 to #464 - nyxie (03/07/2012) [-]
You will do anything to make religion look bad huh? You didn't even know him and if he was, who cares? He made some big discoveries!
#1215 to #473 - flomo (03/07/2012) [-]
that is true he made some big discoveries, but he thought that he would be rememberd for his religius phliosophy, not his astronomical work. I'm not tryingto make it look bad, I'm just stating what I've read about him.
User avatar #1335 to #1215 - nyxie (03/07/2012) [-]
And thats wrong because?
#1340 to #1335 - flomo (03/08/2012) [-]
quote from wikipdia: His bizarre eccentricity and foul personality (that was more prominent in, but not restricted to, his later life) has been attributed to mercury poisoning from his alchemy. Others have attributed it to the possibility of him having Asperger's Syndrome. Or maybe he was just a jerk.

User avatar #1349 to #1340 - nyxie (03/08/2012) [-]
But religion wasn't the cause was it? Plus, he made some pretty big discoveries like I just said!
#1357 to #1349 - flomo (03/08/2012) [-]
absolutley, he made some pretty big discoveries, but I have no clue to what the cause to his jerkiness was, but it does not seem to be a very unusual dissorder among christians.

don't get me wrong, i think the idea of christianety is great, I'm just curius for when it is gonna be put into practise?
User avatar #1362 to #1357 - nyxie (03/08/2012) [-]
What do you mean?
#1373 to #1362 - flomo (03/08/2012) [-]
I think jesus had some great ideas, like turn the otehr cheek, love your enemie, and sell your welth and give to the poor. But i don't see very much of that today.
User avatar #1374 to #1373 - nyxie (03/08/2012) [-]
I know what you mean..but luckily for me, I see it plenty with my religion. All those other Christians make people like me look bad...
#1389 to #1374 - flomo (03/09/2012) [-]
it is easy to blame others and claim that you are flawless, because when you are sure that you have the right belief lose your ability to be self critical you will soon find reasons to se everyone elses world view as inferior to yours.
User avatar #1390 to #1389 - nyxie (03/09/2012) [-]
Wow, uh no. You're totally wrong. What I meant was many other Christians are hypocritical and not very loving and accepting to others. And SOME try to deny science or stuff like that sometimes
#1394 to #1390 - flomo (03/11/2012) [-]
it is easy to blame others, but you have to ask yourself the question, am I any different? are you really? what do you believe in that others find ridiculus and why? what do they believe in that you find stupid?
User avatar #1395 to #1394 - nyxie (03/11/2012) [-]
Well, many consider Mormons to be very different in some ways so I guess I am pretty different. And aren't you the one blaming religions right now?
#1396 to #1395 - flomo (03/11/2012) [-]
wow, I've never spoken to a mormon before, they are close to non existing here in sweden.
If you feel I blamed you I apolegize, I was high.
do you really have polygamy marriges in mormonism?
and I've heard you cut all bonds with people who leave your religion, is that true?
User avatar #1397 to #1396 - nyxie (03/12/2012) [-]
That made me lol. It's alright. And no no nooo. Haha, that's the FLDS and RLDS. And we are always close to our friends and our family, even if they leave. We try to love everyone. The adults do it better than the teens XD
#1398 to #1397 - flomo (03/13/2012) [-]
