the reason its called a mini gun is because a gun is what you find on a the front of a battleship hence this is a mini-gun, the pistol is a firearm not a gun.

No.

Gatling style guns have been around for over 100 years, yes. But the Minigun its self, which is a specific gun made by General Electric made a few decades ago. The gun that was actually called the "Minigun" is the M134, because it was a rather small Gatling style weapon. But people that dont know any better call any multibarreled weapon a "minigun"
Gatling style weapon refers to pretty much any multibarrel machine gun that uses an outside power source to spin the barrels and the fire the rounds.
The M134 fires anywhere between 2000 to 6000 rounds per minute, so it might be 60 rounds per second, much more then likely less though. The round it fires in 7.62x51 NATO which is pretty much the .308 round which costs a different amount depending on where you buy your ammo from. Most people can get them for about 35 cents per round or less. Its still pretty expensive though. The few that are legal for the public to guy are only legal for them because they were sold before there was a ban on civilians owning multibarreled weapons and they will go for over $100,000 whenever they are sold.
The minigun got its name from the round it fires which, while it is a rather large round for small arms, is smaller then what most Gatling Style weapons fire. The GAU-8 (pic related, its the nose cannon on the A-10) fires depleted uranium 30mm rounds, which are **** huge and will remove you from existence. The GAU-6 fires 20mm Vulcan rounds.
I hate it when Funnyjunk trys to into guns because they can.

The general electric 7.62mm m134 minigin is called a minigun because it's a shrunken down version of the m61 Vulcan 20mm automatic cannon. You can trust me, I'm from /k/.

No, it's a miniature Gatling Gun, or Mini Gun for short. A regular Gatling Gun is actually massive, and you cannot carry it in any way, shape, or form and way used by artillery crews in the Civil War until the end of the 1800's.

Derp harder.

Gun describes a weapon incorporating a metal tube from which bullets, shells, or other missiles are propelled by explosive force, typically making a characteristic loud, sharp noise.
The first picture is of a Pistol.

Your so called 'gun' is not a gun, it is, however a handgun. a 'gun' is the large artillery guns on ships. A minigun is a miniature gatling gun. Also, rifles are not guns, they are rifles. Suck it CoDfags.

You are quite possibly the dumbest person I have ever seen. A gun is any type or ordinance that uses a explosion to propel a bullet through a barrel. I.E. Rifle, Shotgun, Pistol, Submachine gun, Vulcan Cannon, or Revolver. A gun is just a category of weapon. "Minigun" is just a term for the M134 Minigun and isn't meant to be handheld, Its meant to be mounted on Humvees and boats, not ships or anything involving artillery. 7.62x51 is an anti-personal and I'm fairly certain there is no close range fighting in the OCEAN. BTW, I play CoD and I still know more about guns than your dumb ass.
