the sun, just like any other star is not burning. it's nuclear fusion of hydrogen at its core, releasing large amounts of energy outwards. this energy eventually makes its way out from the center of the star and into space. if it was burning it wouldn't get anywhere near the temperatures it is currently at.
Tl;dr the star isn't fire, its a nuclear reactor.

Well burning is a general concept. When someone gets slapped they can say their skin is burning. And stars are burning, the gas of stars is ignited, and it is at such a high temperature... well, you get the rest, but that's just what I think and have always been told, there is a good chance that I've been wrong this whole time. And being a man of science and knowledge I can totally accept being wrong. But if you're right, then my mind is blown, bro.

a lightyear is a unit of measurement of distance, it takes light 1 year to go across 1 lightyear.

it says in THE NAME OF THE MEASUREMENT. that it takes light ONE YEAR, to go across ONE LIGHTYEAR, and the measurement for that would be 9,460,730,472,580.8km.
it doesn't matter on how fast you're going. if its going the speed of light, it will get there in a year.

1 light year is the distance light travels in a year. In other words it's distance not time.

As I understood it, the star was dead a long time ago. But we still see it because it takes a longer time for the light from the star to reach us (the contents joke)!

A star doesn't have to be dead just because it's far away, it could still be alive!
