His adoptive father (the current mandalore after Jango died) names him mandalore on his death bed, but Boba refuses for the time being.
he abandons his family for a few decades, fights in a few wars, then when he is 71 he learns he dying, reconciles his differences with his family and watches over his granddaughters wedding and then starts leading the mandalorians under the title
Mandalore the Hunter.
Canderous Ordo from the Knights of the Old republic games was known as Mandalore the preserver and Jango was known as Mandalore the Evasive, as he dissapeared soon after being named Mandalore and became a bounty Hunter

well i don't want to go in to detail seeing as i,m not an expert and i got my information from the same source but i know that jango never led clan fett, he worked for Jaster Mereel as a true Mandalorian and boba was the last fett (Not including clones) but im not hateing or anything.

You can't just become a mandalorian, mandalorians are a race, just like someone could not become a Twi'lek, or a rodian or a rakatan.
The closest a non-mandalorian has ever come to being a mandalorian is Mira from Star Wars KOTOR 2

actually, mandalorian's accept new recruits of any race. it became more of a supreme galactic warrior guild. some were even droids.
