Fact Time: Currently, the US is the most powerful nation on the planet, with over three times the annual military spending of the second most powerful country, China. The US is one of only 9 countries with nuclear arsenals, and has the second largest nuclear arsenal, behind Russia. The US dollar is used as a basis for exchange across the world. US recessions have, for the past century, been correlated almost exactly with global recessions. The US is, at this point in time, comparable to historical empires such as Rome or Great Britain. The past 20 years of history have been called a "pax Americana", because the number and scale of violent conflicts have decreased dramatically. While this may not appear true, remember that news and media outlets grossly over-report most international conflicts. While it is easy to forget the past century of history, remember that American involvement aided in WWI, and swung the balance of power towards the Allies in WWII. In addition, without the nuclear threat represented by America in the 1950-80s, the Soviet Union could very well have invaded much of Europe. So, while I have nothing against making fun of American citizens, the country itself has done so very much for the safety and security of the world at large.

aaaaaand I'm getting thumbed down....

Maybe because I took the post too seriously?

I'm just saying, most of the anti-Americanism is a knee jerk reaction to the fact of American supremacy.

Although to be fair mate you didn't prove American supremacy, I could make a similar list in relation to Great Britain, Portugal, Germany, Russia, Japan etc. and claim that they are superior to all others... Every country has done stuff which gives the impression of superiority... and whilst I'm not saying the US is unimportant, I am saying it is a stretch to say that the Americans are superior, especially with the BRIC nations rapidly expanding their economies...

In what way does it hurt to have the strongest military and best weapons?

The best weapons ensure that fewer lives are lost on the users side. An eye for an eye leaves your opponent blind first. And like oosime said, "who would attack the most powerful country and think to get away with it?" And when they do they get steamrolled.
