You know you have to put a coin in a shopping cart, and when you finish shopping you have to put the metal chain of another cart from the line back in the coin slot to get your coin back? Well the user of this cart has managed to put the chain in the same cart, so he could use the cart AND have his coin.

Have you read the other comments? It's just a coin slot on a shopping cart. They have metal chains to hook them onto eachother, to prevent them from getting stolen. People return them because it has their coin in it, but this guy has managed to put the metal chain in his own cart, thus getting his coin back without returning the cart.
I took the picture at the mall though, so his effort for putting it in there was absolutely useless.

I could be a grammar nazi about this, but I see what you mean. Your sentence makes it seem like the people are stealing carts not coins.

Yes, they really do. Someone else has told me in the other comments how you regularly find shopping carts in low-income areas. Well I've only found a cart in public once in my entire lifetime. And I work at a supermarket, we don't see carts getting stolen :)

Geeze her in the u.s. I find shopping carts EVERYWHERE and I have never lived in a lowincome area. You find them in irrigation ditches, parks, behind gas stations, in parking lots(far away from their original parking lot). EVERYWHERE.
And I have lived in California, Utah, and Colorado. It's true anywhere in the u.s. really.
