I love both versions of Team Fortress, but I still prefer the TFC. Dat pyro.

I spent plenty of time on my SNES and 64 games, but I'm not going to act like there aren't good games today. Every generation of games has its great games that will be remembered for decades, but they also have their shitty ones. Its just that people remember the shitty games of the present more then the past, which is why we think the past's games were so much better

It's the effect of nostalgia. Great memories are exasperated and you forget or reject the notion of bad memories from the same time.

You're looking in the wrong places, then. There are a plethora of amazing games today with great gameplay, graphics, story development and so-called "charm".

I'll give you that. I'm not saying that new games suck now. I just personally prefer the older ones more.

the way I see it, they tried to make TOO MUCH of a story out of them.

For some games, I like stories. Not so much with FPSes (Shoot him. "why?" Because he's the enemy. End of story) or Mario games (rescue the goddamn princess already), but with things that more closely resemble RPGs (like Legend of Spyro, I mean, there was even a skill tree), I find a backstory makes the game more interesting.

You must not play many FPSs.

It's not my favorite genre.
Although, same thing with racing games: "why are you racing?" Because I'm in a car, and they're in a car, and we're on a racetrack.

Well, there's a difference. Most FPS games have a campaign, with a story, while most racing games are just that; racing.

It probably doesn't help that I tend not to read much of the story of FPSes anyway.
"What's that? His wife eagerly awaits his return? IDGAF, let me blow up some [insert enemy here]!"
I guess I just have a hard time switching between "shoothimshoothimshoothimshoothim" and "I do quite enjoy this young man's life story" quickly.
