If a person who sings for a living can't stir a crowd by standing still and singing, they shouldn't be famous for singing in the first place.

To add dancing and shit is all fine and good, but if they're lip-synching because of it, they shouldn't be doing it.

#116 - mrknowitall (02/13/2012) [-]
Play guitar, sing, headbang, run around on stage, and throw shit at the audience, all while keeping in perfect synch with the other members of the band doing the same.

And no one ever wonders how real musicians do it.

At least the tech teams did their job better than last year's with the black eyed peas. Sounded decent rather than awful...

I have huge respect for marching bands.
User avatar #107 - lynchdude (02/13/2012) [-]
i kind of agree with lip syncing it, last year the black eyed peas didn't do it and the mic would slip farther then closer to their mouth so for a second you cant here them then its too loud. at least you can hear them at the same volume for and shit if they cheat

it makes me so happy to see these men get credit for all of the hard work they do every year.

DCI and DCA are both ridiculously difficult. Many people can dance and sing, but not a lot of people can jazz run and blow a double sixtuplet chromatic scale ending on a double G.

So fucking true!!!!!
User avatar #88 - mymainaltsalt (02/13/2012) [-]
In all honesty... blowing into an instrument and singing are two very different things.
You don't want your voice to sound breathless when it's that important.

In all honesty.... blowing into an instrument and singing are two very similar things. You don't want your sound quality to sound breathless when it's that important..... Lamar SmithGOT...
User avatar #93 to #91 - mymainaltsalt (02/13/2012) [-]
Never used my diaphragm in marching band.
Fighting to hit notes and breath at the right moments ... it's just nerve racking.
The instrument has it's own sounds... you just have to know the right keys.

#119 to #93 - Yamzors (02/13/2012) [-]
If you're not using your diaphragm, then you're not playing your instrument correctly. That's where the full sound comes from, not to mention that it increases your lung capacity immensely.
#89 to #88 - mistahlegend ONLINE (02/13/2012) [-]
And you don't want your sound quality to sound like shit when you're blowing into an instrument while you fly across the field. Every individual player has to sound good or else you more or less fucked everyone over.
User avatar #92 to #89 - mymainaltsalt (02/13/2012) [-]
True.
In my own experience I found it easier to be in marching band then, singing in the high school play while dancing.
Have to have complete control of your diaphragm while singing.
#97 to #92 - anonymous (02/13/2012) [-]
except madonna didnt even try to sing
User avatar #99 to #97 - mymainaltsalt (02/13/2012) [-]
Now I'm not sticking up for Madonna. Let me be clear.
But to say that lip singing is never needed... is kind of unfair.
Now there are times where you can sing along with the lip sync.
User avatar #96 to #92 - Bryle (02/13/2012) [-]
Wow... Really? Did you really just say that..... You need absolute control of your diaphragm when playing musical instruments to. Plus its not just you taking care of yourself in a marching band you have to be playing and listening to the others as well. If one person is off the whole band is off. So STFU.
User avatar #98 to #96 - mymainaltsalt (02/13/2012) [-]
No need to get riled up.
It's a simple disagreement.
The same rules apply to singing as well my dear. ;)
User avatar #95 to #92 - superpeepee (02/13/2012) [-]
BAND GEEK FIGHT!!!!!!
#94 to #92 - mistahlegend ONLINE (02/13/2012) [-]
You have to control your diaphragm while playing too. Maybe your band director wasn't as intent to making everybody better as mine was. Mine would spend one hour every other day working breathing and the entirety of the band would run a mile all breathing in a certain way.
User avatar #100 to #94 - mymainaltsalt (02/13/2012) [-]
Like I said... voice and instrument.
Different things.
#101 to #100 - mistahlegend ONLINE (02/13/2012) [-]
But my point that I was trying to make but managed to fuck up was that, in both singing and playing, you have to know when to breathe, which way is the best way to take in as much air as possible, and with a instrument, play in such a way where you are in tune at all times with everybody else.
User avatar #103 to #101 - mymainaltsalt (02/13/2012) [-]
Exactly!
But like I said before the instrument is it's own voice... your fingers lungs and diaphragm do the work.
But it's okay five years of band and six years of chorale has not trained me for knowing any of this. XD

hell yeah! i was in drumline for 4 years. that shit aint easy! try carrying a huge drum on your shoulders.

it's funny how hard some of the stuff can look to people who don't know anything about drumming...but in reality some of the stuff is just basic stickings, just REALLY fast.

(no, i understand that there is way more to drum corps than just that)
User avatar #80 - Happiness (02/13/2012) [-]
Looks like me and Madonna have something in common, we both haven't sung at the superbowl...
#75 - anonymous (02/13/2012) [-]
Drum corps doesn't have to sing.

#77 to #75 - darkvenomx (02/13/2012) [-]
they dont have to sing but they have to keep tempo, play loud and stay on step while keeping straight lines and keeping the set clean
