If i could go back in time, I'd do the following:
Gather roughly 10,000 of the world's top IQs, ranging from physicians to military tacticians, from philosophers to ecologists. Being the top 1% or so of the human race's intellects, it can be assumed that these geniuses posses a high level of rationality, but I would still pick and choose to make sure they all have a high level of not only rationality but also morals. Take this group of superior people back to the Paleolithic Era. There, we slowly mingle with groups of our earliest ancestors. Set up schools and teach, from very early ages, the humans sciences that even today most people don't know/care about. Enlighten them in ways that wouldn't otherwise be possible for tens of thousands of years. This Gen-One of super intellects I'd have brought with me will establish the first advanced settlements, saving humanity a whole era's worth of time to establish the first city. having taught the humans everything they know about everything from telecommunications to how to make steel, I can rationally hypothesize that we could reach a 20th century world before the 'booster' generation had died off and the year 49,000 BCE had passed. By generation 3, we're well within the 23rd century with now highly advanced science rates. By 2186, humanity will grow bored of waiting for the Reapers and just attack them in deep space. By 2200, the Reaper fleet will have their insides hollowed out and each ship will be used as 5 star hotels and dumps

I highly doubt that. Sure, you could teach them enough to be like the 20th century, but the 20th century also had several other improvements as well (namely, the ability to build homes and skyscrapers and communications systems and all that happy shit). Knowing how to build something and having the capability to build it are two different things. Unless you plan on bringing back an army of construction engineers and heavy equipment, there is simply no way you could develop the tools necessary before the "super generation" dies off...
And, as anyone who knows about early humans will tell you, finding food and shelter comes first, and learning new things second. Which is why we didn't start to make any sort of significant leaps in higher intelligence until we got the whole 'building shelter' and 'farming' shit down... So unless you can provide the early humans with the tools to do that, they will immediately forget whatever you teach them in favor of more useful skills such as not dying of starvation...
Just saying.

Just saying.
1) there'll be plenty of labor available from the early humans, the 'boosters' will act as project managers
2) while it would be difficult to get a start and my '20th century' estimate is (in hindsight) a bit off, we can at least get to the 19th century, but i refuse to entirely let go of my 20th century estimate.
3) entire industries must be set up to set up other industries to set up other industries etc etc but with 10k of the best of humanity leading things, who knows how far shit will get?
4) we can easily teach them to farm and to make a house. The food and shelter thing isn't a big deal at all then. Thus, they'll be able to focus on intellect.
To sum it up, we're speeding human progess by 51,000 years. Also, it should be noted that it was just a thought and the whole thing is entirely impossible anyway. I wouldn't even be able to get back in time (backward time travel is viewed as entirely impossible) let alone convinced 10,000 people to come with me
PS. it was all just building to the Mass Effect reference at the end.

1.) Okay, that's assuming you get them all to trust you and not assume you are aliens or some shit.
2/3.) Exactly. You need to invent the hammer to invent the forge to invent machinery (and refining techniques, cause you can't use plain ore to build skyscrapers), etc. etc. Your best bet would be to just bring back all the equipment with you, rather than having to go through the process of making one invention after another. But, even if you DO bring all the machinery back, skyscrapers still take years to build, each. Not counting the time it takes to train everyone. In order to get anywhere near the 20th century you would literally need an army of engineers just to build everything, because by the time you train all the early humans to do that your super generation will be dead. Though, being able to build skyscrapers would be a pretty significant leap all by itself, so not a total loss there...
4.) You're missing the point. Simple huts and farming allowed for some learning, but it didn't allow for much because it still took a lot of time to farm and maintain the shelter. The reason we have learned so much in so little time (took us, what, 100,000 years to get fire, but only took us under 100 to go from grounded to exploring space) is because as we progress farming and maintaining shelter takes less and less of our total productivity as a race away from important shit like learning and inventing.
Simply put, your plan WOULD advance the human race very significantly, but it still takes time. No amount of intelligence can change the fact that building a single skyscraper still takes years even if you already have all the supplies and workers set to go. You would need_ at least_ a few generations of super humans to advance the human race from cave dwelling to 20th century.

I would have mentioned all that in the original post, but i was just (as i said) trying to make a mass effect reference so i thought it would be overkill. Bringing 10,000 wouldn't work. If backward time travel were possible, i'd bring a good 100,000 with me, and the supplies would be immense. I'd have to make sure that the 'super generation' had an even distribution of males and females to ensure that they would increase in number as well, not just the early humans. The lineage of modern humans would act as a...caretaker or nanny for the early humans, ensuring that they were moving in the right direction. So really, i'd say that maybe 3 generations would have to pass in order for the early humans to (more or less) be up to speed with the moderns. Industrially, being able to bring shit with us helps immensely. We can at least skip some parts by bringing in machines and jump starting with techs. For instance, we won't have to invent the wheel, learn to harness copper and iron (the art of metallurgy took thousands of years to perfect, every second of which is now spared), or screw around with coal power. We could bring machines and a supply of fuel for them to set up the petroleum industry, cutting steam power out of the development timeline. We can build ocean faring vessels out of wood, so intercontinental spread won't be too hard, and we can develop manned flight without too much difficulty with the petrol sources in existence (start with the Wright flier if we must, then just develop models that worked). Also, we'd have to wear bio-suits when meeting the early humans, at least in the beginning. Our immune systems are different from theirs. If we're not careful, it'll be another American Indian genocide (unintentional, but horrific nonetheless).

I'll consider that from the bridge of my Reaper Playboy mansion
Forward time travel is way easier (and possible, for that matter) than backward time travel, thus nothing is stopping me from simply arriving, establishing, managing for a decade or two then living it up in 2186 with the super humans. Seeing as i was their salvation, I'd get anything i wanted. I could also go back to a second after i left my voyage in case one of my followers did something really fucking dumb.

Logically, you would have to exist. If you didn't exist you could have never gone back in time and possibly erased your own existence. Also, if you never went back in time, you'd still exist. Also, people around you influence you and your life so each person you've ever met, no matter how insignificant, led you to your travel through time and your means of doing so. Therefor, you and anyone you've ever known would exist no matter what.
I heard a theory that says you'd actually go to a separate dimension which is completely severed from this one. That would mean you could do whatever without anything impacting you. Of course, backward time travel is impossible, so it hardly matters :/
that is if they respected you, if you go this far into the future based off you super human theory, then by 2186, the human race will be so advanced, we will probably have discovered how to traverse different dimensions and plane's of existence. and there is the possibility that they laugh in your face for being so intellectually stupid compared to them...
If they're that advanced, they'll surely at least respect me for having made it possible for them to be so. Socrates would be considered intellectually stupid compared to our top minds, but we still respect those who paved the way.
Ah, and yes i definitely will. I had intentionally made the Mass Effect reference but began searching my paragraph/comments for anything else that could have been a reference to anything (they tend to stand out). Hopefully i'll be on Enders Game pretty soon, I look forward to it.
