I agree with you on that, I'm a muslim, so ofcourse I would thank God but I think it would be absolutely ridiculous to not even talk to the surgeon and say a word of thanking.

The church asks for donations which are in turn spent on the church and/or charity (as far as my knowledge of Christianity goes).

I don't see surgeons asking for money. Besides, surgeons get a lot of money anyways and the church gets almost nothing if it doesn't ask for donations. Not really comparable IMHO but you are free to have your own opinion.

An average starting salary for surgeons is about 230k. The median for almost any doctor in the US is about 110k.
