I hope ACTA passes. I hope some zombified version of SOPA passes. I hope anything that makes a visible difference in the average citizen's life passes, especially if it means Internet censorship. Then maybe, just maybe will people actually start giving a fuck. For now, we'll sit and talk shit over Facebook feeds and Reddit up-votes, while some weasels in congress try to sneak some legislation by on a napkin. Realistically, a huge portion of the people speaking out against Internet censorship are doing it in some shallow attempt to seem more interesting or "political". They expect everything to magically work itself out because there are these magical people who will save their freedoms, magically. I know this because I am one of them. Not until we get slapped in the face with some real online restriction will we truly understand the gravity of the situation. So I say, bring it on. I think something like ACTA would create a shitstorm. And I think it'd take a shitstorm to put an end to corporatism, lobbyism, and dickheads being promised millions of dollars a year til the day they die just because they have the authority to fuck over a small district of oblivious people. It's only a matter of time until one of these bills sneaks by and some fine print can be interpreted as justification for stopping a 50 year old woman from posting Charlie Bit My Finger on her Facebook wall. So fuck it. Let it happen. People clearly won't be okay with it. And maybe that bitch will actually care enough to stop electing the same dickheads, if only to be able to show her work buddies how funny Charlie Bit My Finger truly is. Even though it has like half a billion views and odds are they have probably seen it already. You're right though, Cheryl, that video is pretty funny. End. Vaguely. Political. Rant.
