Well, keep waiting. One of the biggest fails of modern education imo, is wasted resources.

Of course you have to learn basic math in school. But I´d say it should stop at the level of simple equations. Everything after that is just a waste of time and energy.

Algebra has some uses, go Google it for everyday uses even if the link below is removed.
answers.yahoo.com/question/...
For physics, engineering and even game programming it's important.

DUH!!!!!

Maths is important in programming, physics and engineering?

WHO WOULD HAVE EVER THOUGHT THAT MIGHT BE POSSIBLE?

I mean seriously, reread that.

And if you plan on becoming an engineer, programmer or physicist, then you should have math on that level in college.

Learn to read the whole comment and linked content. I linked to a yahoo answers page that answers the question of algrebra's importance in everyday life. What you interpret as my whole comment is the last sentence, that was just aditional.

Also, don't you choose the what kind of math you want in high school over there? Also, most of the specialized math for my degree in college are in fact taught in college, at least here in Norway. And the most high-level math in high schools over here are for those who plan to apply for a engineering degree on a college/univeristy afterwards.

I apologize for misunderstanding your post. I just checked the link you provided. It doesn´t really hold up. Most of the examples were job applications. Of course you need to be able to calculate probabilities if you work in market research.

I personally never used algebra at the gas station. But maybe that is just me.

And, no, we sadly have to take math until a certain level. It depends on what kind of school you visit.

The basic algebra is in middle school here, but the harder math with differential equations and spacial geometry is only for those who seek to study some kind of engineering/IT degree at university or college. I think it's because they don't want to force life changing decisions too early, because some people seem to wait for a "revelation" only a year before they're able to apply for college/uni.

The math in college isn't perfect either, as all IT degrees here have the same math the first year and the IT secuirity students won't need the same math as game programmers or computer engineers and vice versa.

My Maths teacher has:
-A PHD in Maths
-A PHD in Science
-A Masters in something
-A BA in something else
-And other things

He couldn't tell us when we use algebra in life, he was embarrassed that he couldn't so he gave a detention to the person who asked.

No teacher has ever told me reason when we use algebra.
One teacher did say it teaches you to not put oranges and apples in the same bag when getting fruit at the supermarket. WTF, THAT'S CALLED COMMON SENSE.

Mission: you have twenty dollars on you and you left your credit/debit/whatever card at home. You have a maximum of twenty dollars to spend.

And you're ****ing hungry.

Sales tax is 7.75%.

How many cheese balls can you buy?

Y are you asking me this.

...Because that's something that would come up in real life where knowing algebra is useful. That's just one example. I use algebra pretty much every day without thinking much about it. You said that no teacher has ever been able to show you when algebra is useful. I, a teacher, just did.
