actually tomatoes maybe considered fruits or vegetables depending on who you ask. scientifically speaking tomatoes are definitely fruit but cooks often refer to them as vegetables. that's why when it comes to school meals they are considered vegetables.

Wrong... I'm sorry, but that's simply not true... Tomatoes are a fruit no matter who you ask... Yes, scientists know it's a fruit, but cooks call it a vegetable because, like the avocado, people almost always use it as if it WAS a vegetable...

i didn't say tomatoes were vegetables, in fact i said the complete opposite. tomatoes are fruits but for culinary purposes they are called vegetables. is there any problem with that statement? i'm not saying it magically changes classification depending on what you call it, i'm saying different fields call it different things. cooks don't call it a vegetable because of some old misconception, they call it that because of their purposes when cooking with the thing. did you even read the original comment or link?
