Moldywart logic

You made me a sandwich, but did you use all our food? No? Then surely you want me to starve.
User avatar #130 to #118 - lordmoldywart (01/27/2012) [-]
You mock my logic, but it's obvious you don't grasp the concept, a quite simple one at that

Read up on the parable of the widow's mite, maybe then you'll be able to comment upon my logic

Your logic is that he should donate most of his incoming profit towards charity. The point is he gave a lot to charity, and if you ask aids victims they don't give a shit about what's left, it's all in the giving.

It's not the practicality behind the idea, but the principal. Yes he throws cash at it, but It's no skin off his nose, and his lifestyle is unchanged which suggests he's only doing it for his reputation

He's improved other peoples lives, does it matter whether he worsens his own?
User avatar #141 to #137 - lordmoldywart (01/27/2012) [-]
I just don't like how people hype him up making him look like a saint when he's sat in his mansion laughing his ass off, sat atop a pile of cash (figuratively)

It's not like he thinks a lot about how much he donates. He just does it.

Bitch Please.
As of 2007, Bill and Melinda Gates were the second-most generous philanthropists in America, having given over $28 billion to charity. They plan to eventually give 95% of their wealth to charity.

It's not about how much you have afterwards, it's about the ratio of before to after.

User avatar #105 to #98 - lordmoldywart (01/27/2012) [-]
It's more about what you have left over afterwards...

A poor person who gives every last penny of their wealth to help others (even if it's just a few pennies) is more charitable than someone who gives millions and still has billions left over and enjoys a billionaires lifestyle

Bill Gates is clearly a terrible person for giving away billions of dollars, just because he has billions more. </sarcasm> Whether he gives $1 billion or $100 billion, he's still changed the lives of hundreds of thousands of people, if not millions. And that's just considering charity, not the fact that he played a huge role in the introduction of personal computers. And what did Steve do? Sure, he also played a role in the same thing, but he got greedy, overcharged his customers, and didn't donate shit. Which is the point the comic is making. It's not saying "OH MY GOD BILL GATES IS THE NEXT MOTHER THERESA," it's just saying "Bill Gates, as a person, is better than Steve Jobs, so Steve's cancer (and/or Bill's lack thereof) was karma"

Au contraire, I would be perfectly happy with normal life
User avatar #135 to #133 - concentratedjuice (01/27/2012) [-]
stop trying to act all high and mighty, you have no idea what you would do in that situation so take your opinion and shove it up your ass

I do have an idea of what I'd do in that situation, it's not like my whole outlook on life would change just because I found myself with a lot of money

And pipe down, you're embarrassing yourself

At the end of the day Bill Gates will still have brought a computer into almost every home everywhere AND given his wealth to charity while Steve Jobs will have put an Iphone in your hand which isn't as revolutionary and not doe shit but sat on his money.

I think in what you said before I guess old Billy boy deserves living in luxury for what he has done for himself, but not complete exess of course, but it's really chill that he's donating don't you think :)
