Give the ¢25 to one and ask what door the hostage is behind, regardless of the answer ask the blind man for your ¢25 back, if he says you can have it back he's the liar and you should take the opposite of his advice, if he says you can't have your ¢25 back he's telling the truth and you should choose the door he told you.

For one thing, it's they're not their, that bugged me, secondly, for all we know when the blind man takes the quater he tosses it down a well or ingests it. It would be pretty hard to take get your quater back from the stomach of a blind man especially without him knowing.

Your point makes sense but you added your own premise which is not valid in the world of riddles. The fact has been stated clearly, "you can have one single question to either man of your choice."

You seem to say yourself, "for all we know when the blind man takes the quater he tosses it down a well or ingests it." How do you know the blind men won't stubbornly say no. After all this situation is hardly one to be seen in reality.

I'm trying to figure it out but I need to write it down.
-I pick man on left
-Ask him "What would the other guard say if I asked him where his door leads?"
-He says the other guard would say that his door leads to death
-If guy on left is liar then the right door is the one I should choose
-If guy on left is truthful then the left door is the one I should choose

Am I missing something?

Assume Door 1 has the hostage.

Situation 1:
Man 1 is truthful.
Ask Man 1 that question.
Response is "Door 2 has the hostage" (Since Man 2 would say Door 2 DOES have the hostage)
Pick Door 1.
Profit.

Situation 2:
Man 1 is a liar.
Ask question.
Man 1 says "Door 2 has the hostage" (Since Man 2 would say that Door 2 does NOT have the hostage)
Pick Door 1
Profit

But you don't know if Man 1 is a liar or if he's truthful, which makes your argument invalid (no disrespect). Let's say this:
Based on what was given in this thread:
I go up to Man 1 and ask him "What would Man 2 say if I asked him where his door leads?"
Man 1: Man 2 would say that his door leads to the hostage.
And that's it. I don't have any more information. I don't know if Man 1 is the liar or the non-liar nor do I know which door leads to the hostage.

So you create a double negative? No that's not exactly it...

There are two questions involved here:
Question 1: "What would the other man say if I asked him which door the hostage was behind?"

Question 2: "Which door is the hostage behind?"

Whichever one you choose, you are receiving the answer you would get if you asked the liar question 2.

Situation 1:
You ask the true guy.
Ask him question 1.
He says whatever the liar would say.
You have the liar's answer to question 2, pick other door.

Situation 2:
You ask the liar.
Ask him question 1.
He says the opposite of what the true man would say (there's that double negative that confused me).
Hence the answer is also a lie. You once again have the liars answer to question 2, pick other door.

There we go. I know you already understood that, I just felt so proud for getting it XD

No you wouldn't.

If we say guy #1 always tells the truth, and #2 always lies.
Guy number #2 would say the wrong door.
Guy number #1 would say the right door.
So if I ask guy #1 what #2 would say, he knows that guy #2 is lying, so he would say the wrong door. Therefore, I take the opposite of what he says.

If we say I ask #2, he would know, that #1 would say the right door. But since #2 is a liar, he says the opposite of what #1 would, therefore the wrong door.

HOpe you understand it.

But how would you know who you asked?

You wouldn't know, but no matter which of them you asked, you would get the wrong answer

i get your idea on this question and yes it is the correct answer but i came up with that at first remembering labyrinth (awesome memory :D) but in an ironic way wouldnt both answer your question telling you that the other guard would say a lie?

all they said is that one is a liar. he could just say "I don't know". he'd still (possibly) be lying and you would still have no idea which door to choose.

No, he's telling you WHAT the liar would say. He's not telling you that it's the correct door. He's just saying what the other person would say.

If you ask the truth he would tell you the wrong door, but you don't know who you asked so... no way.

If you get the liar then he will lie and actually say which door the hostage is in but then its a never ending paradox with your solution.

No because in order for the one to lie, he has to say the one the truth teller will say. In order for the truth teller to say the one the liar will say they have to just say it regardless of where the person is. So the truth teller will say what the liar will say causing the liar to say the other door and its never ending.

Okay. Let's say the Hostage was in door 1. and person 1 was the truth.
Person 1 would say: "person 2 would say door 2"
Person 2 would say "Person 1 would say door 2"
So it's always the opposite of what they say.

Person 2 lies so they would say that person 1 would say door 1

But you're asking what the other person would say. Since person 1 knows its door 1 and would say it was door 1 which is the truth. Person 2 lies and would say "Person 1 would say door 2" making it the opposite both times... Get it?

but in order for person 2 to lie they have to say that person 1 will say door 1 but that makes the truth teller a liar. So either way they both tell the truth or they both lie. That doesnt work since one has to lie and one has to tell the truth.

The problem in your thinking is that you're going in circles. The question isn't, "What would the other blind man say if he had to say what you would say?" but it is "What would the other man say?" Stop going in circles, and it would make sense to you. Let me go over it with you.
Let door 1 be the hostage door. You don't know which man will lie or which will tell the truth, but you know they will both end up lying if you ask either of them what the other man will say.
IF YOU ASK THE TRUTH-TELLER: He will truthfully tell you what the liar will say. The liar would lie, and say that the hostage door is door 2. The truth-teller, then, would tell you, "If you asked the other man what he would say was the right door, he would say door 2."
IF YOU ASK THE LIAR: He will lie about what the truth-teller will say. The truth-teller would tell you the truth, and say the hostage door is door 1. However, the liar would tell you the opposite of what the truth-teller will say. The liar, then, would say "If you asked the other man what door is good, he would say door 2."
So you see, the truth-teller tells the truth about the liar, and the liar lies about the truth-teller. No matter who you ask, the will tell you the wrong door. So you will know the correct door is the opposite of what they say, every time!
