marlkarxthethird (01/24/2012) [-] Truthfully, I don't pretend to fully understand or be able to judge the development of the different English dialects. The whole things is a messy amalgam of Anglo-Saxon, German, and French. Given that and the regional discrepancies that arose over time as the different English-speaking peoples became more and more dissimilar, trying to compare britfat and American English is like trying to compare Argentinian and Castilian Spanish. Sure, the root of the language is the same, and the different speakers can understand each other well enough, but there is enough variation in the slang and local color/colour that there is a distinct contrast between the two.
