technically both are right.
LEFT:
6 / 2 (1+2)
6 / 2 (3)
2*3 = 6
6 / 6 = 1

RIGHT:
6 / 2 (1+2)
6 / 2 (3)
6 / 2 = 3
3*3=9

>pic unrelated

the left is wrong because if you have both multiplication and division in one problem, you work it from left to right

I'm sitting here working out these problems in five seconds, because I'm boss, and it hits me. Why the **** would you need a calculator for this problem?

Answer is 9
You do parentheses first (1+2) =3
You now have 6/2(3)
Now you do division and multiplication in the same strep from LEFT to RIGHT, don't forget that.
6/2 = 3
Now you have 3(3)
3(3) = 9
Booyah!

it goes actually like this: 6:2 ( 1+2) ---> 6:2+3 ---> 3+3 ----> 6
User avatar #15 to #14 - noblexfenrir (01/20/2012) [-]
My ******* god, Fine I'll explain it to you if need be:
6/2(1+2)
First you do the parentheses--> 6/2 (3)
Then you DIVIDE becuase on PEMDAS multiplication and division are on the same level so it would be which ever comes first which IS LEFT TO RIGHT--> 3(3)

Then ******* multiply--> 9
