OP is Slowpoke.. been using those for 2 years now, they're actually running shoes (can be used however you like, climbing etc.) - theory is that your foot doesn't need anti-cushion and whatnot you put in running shoes now'a'days.. builds a stronger, more natural stride/foot.

I've seen them in the states before I ever even knew they were in japan.
