DUMBASS MOVIE MOMENTS!
Hearts!
I have seen very few movies where actual chest
compressions are used to resuscitate somebody
whose heart has already stopped. They always
use a defibrillator to try to start it. Dammit,
defibrillators are used to STOP your heart when
it' s flipping shit, so it can take a breath and get
back to a steady rhythm.

they do both. a defibrillator can either start or stop your heart. It restores the rhythmic pattern of the heart by using the electrical pulse, which can activate or terminate neuron function. So movies are not wrong. Why do you think they have emergency defibrillators? For a person to be like "hey my hearts beating a little fast, shock me with those paddles on the wall". No its to start your heart, that is why defibrillator are on crash carts in hospitals, to start a heart that has "crashed"

Not if the heart's just beating fast, it's for if it's beating irregularly. If a heart is fibrillating, that means it's just shivering, and can't pump blood. It needs to contract evenly from one side to the other, not having a seizure. A Defib shocks it in the hopes that your natural pacemaker can have a nice calm shot to break in to restore the real heartbeat, instead of trying to get it's shoulder into a shivering spazzing beat.

I can see starting a completely stopped heart, maybe in a perfect case. Anything's possible.

Defibulators are used to either start or stop the heart, as mentioned. That's why when someone's heart stops, you start CPR as a means to wait until the defibulator arrives.
