Why don't we combine them?
Make athletes rush to the scenes of massive disasters.
Whosoever saves the most lives (taking into consideration style and flare) wins.

If we gave every soldier, cop and firefighter as much as we did athletes... we would be broke. Firefighters are NOT paid by the private sector. Soccer players are, and the institutions can pay them whatever they want...

firemen, cops, doctors and soldiers deserve all the praise in the world for what they do.

on the other hand, football is the biggest sport in the world, lots of money to be made.

<-- this is actually me, I'm a wildland firefighter here in Ky and I only make minimum wage. Most of the time our main office even has to cut the days we're allowed to work because they just can't afford it so yeah I know all about that bullshit my friends

military, firefighters, police, etc=tax payers money
athletes=private money

People can do with their money what they will, and if they want to spend millions on a sports team then so be it. Besides, its obvious who actually puts their heart into their jobs, and who's in it for the money.

I doubt someone would go into firefighting for the money. It's more of a serving your country sort of thing. I hate to say it but now days football is almost always about the money. It used to be kinda reasonable, BUT THEN FUCKING CHELSEA FUCKED EVERYONE OVER DAMNIT.

coming from a firefighter........we don't care about the money, most firefighters in the US are volunteers, only a select few volunteer stations get paid, we save lives because we enjoy helping humanity, not because we get paid.

I'm not saying firemen don't deserve higher wages, they do, but they are not in it for the money anyway. But I hate it when people say footballers are overpaid, 85,000 people pay around $80 (in the case of real madrid) every week just to watch them for 90 minutes so their wages are fair based on how much money they bring in for the club.

This is just as retarded as those people on facebook saying the armys wages should be switched with pro athletes.

If anything it proves they're not in it for the money.

And who's fault is it? Who are the people that watch the games? Thats the issue. And who are the people complaining about taxes? Those are the people lowering firemen's pay.

everyone who chooses to become a police officer/firefighter/armed forces etc. makes a conscious decision to choose that as their profession, they are not forced into it, they know what kind of pay they are signing up for, and professional athletes put years of hard work into their training, and football/baseball/soccer brings in a lot of money for their respective countries/clubs.

Totally true. Sports are for PURE entertainment anyway. That shouldnt be something that gets top priority pay for. I always put it into the perspective of zombies. If there was a zombie apocalypse tomorrow. I wouldnt really give a shit about professional sports, id rather have a doctor, someone good with mechanics and electricity, and people skilled in survival and weaponry. Not jocks

Why don't you have a picture of a field-goal kicker up there? Because that is really ALL they do.
