I hypothesize that the reason the Aboriginals never developed beyond the stone age is because there was no "beast of burden" native to their country that would be viable for domestication. The root of all civilization lies in the domestication of animals that do work more efficiently than humans. Because these super-efficient beasts created a larger net-crop per year, this left certain peoples with extra time on their hands to develop technology, art, and a basic understanding of the world around them. Since the Aboriginals never had much opportunity to explore the world around them, they couldn't advance as a culture. Also, big, meaty claws
