What people don't understand is that dogs are very protective of their owners, friends and family, so it's not unusual that they get mad at a stranger when they get near to someone loved, this applies to most dogs, ranging from small ones like poodles to big ones like Great Danes.

my dog, smokey. people aren't only intimidated by his size, but the fact that his eyes are two different colors. i've never understood that, how does that make him more viscous?

Every now and then, I petsit this monstrously-sized Rottie, Tola.

She's huge, but she's the sweetest dog I've ever played with.
She actually lives in a family with two ( a two and three year old) babies that roam the house freely, and two cats.
She could easily knock you over with a little push, but she's obedient, incredibly loving, has never done so much as growl at me.
She gets easily lonely. Whenever I come over she's ridiculously happy and will lie on your feet, because she's afraid you'll leave. She cries a lot when you try to leave her alone again.
But whenever I go and tell people that I often babysit a rottweiler (spelling?), they look at me as if I'm insane, and start listing the most ignorant things.
It's really irritating..

First of all i'd like say say i love everyone who comments about their awesome dogs that people assume are killing machines, secondly, my Alsatian, Mitch, is an ex police dog that was forced to retired due to a foot injury, he wouldn't hurt a fly, literally. The only time i like people being scared of him is when a gang of hoodies is walking down the street thinking they own the place, they see him and **** themselves in fear. Epic brofist awesome dog owners <3

it's all to do with how they're brought up and the how the owners treat them but they were origanally bred to kill.

**saladtongsofdeath rolled a random image posted in comment #262 at The moon ** get your facts straight, they where breed from terrier breeds (chasing varmints) to tracking (as in deer and elk) and what plp used them the most was on farms because they are fast enough to chase rats but strong enough to take down cows and bulls (bovine) and smart enough to heard animals (coral and protect from wolves/coyote/predators thats y youll find pits 150lbs to 50lbs

I know what you mean. :/ I have a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, every time I walk her people always **** themselves, especially if they have smaller dogs. ._. But she is honestly the most gentle dog I've ever had in my life.

I trust these dogs more than chiwawa. Those ************* are dangerous.
User avatar #187 - YippieKiYay (12/04/2011) [-]
I completely agree 100%, but I should point out that a lot of dogs are bred by idiots to be aggressive so they can be 'attack dogs' and fighting dogs. It's the breeders that do this that end up giving the whole breed a bad name because if they're bred properly, from dogs that have good temperaments, this wouldn't be a problem.
User avatar #175 - IceBearJudgesYou (12/04/2011) [-]
I own a full blooded Boxer and a full blooded Great Dane. Whenever i take either for a walk, someone always has this look of terror like they'll have their faces ripped off.
User avatar #182 to #175 - YippieKiYay (12/04/2011) [-]
Yeah, I used to own a huge german shepherd who was a complete sook, but people would always be terrified of him. One woman even literally grabbed her son towards her, glared at us and crossed the road. =/

Yeah people get really intimidated by my full blooded Alaskan Malamute, but he wouldn't hurt a fly. He loves everyone and always wants to play. He is a big softy. That is my baby right there.

i used to have a boxer she was white and they usually always put down the white ones at birth because the health problems she was the sweetest dog i ever had sadly a few months ago she died of cancer. i wish more people knew about the white boxers so we can save them:(
User avatar #181 to #179 - IceBearJudgesYou (12/04/2011) [-]
Im sorry to hear that. D: Theyre such good dogs.

My Uncle had a full blooded boxer that we would baby sit a lot since he had to travel for business. Brutus, the boxer, was the best dog you'd ever meet. All he wanted to do was make you happy. We would play a game where he would chase your feet and play bite them, which for him would mean he would gum your feet. You would only ever have to tell him to do something once and he would do it right away. He was the most gentle and loving dog.

that is all.

Bull dogs are banned where I live. I know that certain breeds are bred for killing/hunting/security but its still the fault of humans for training dogs to attack and treating them badly so they attack!
User avatar #185 to #174 - EvilFluffyBunny (12/04/2011) [-]
By nature Pitbulls and bull dogs are gentle. The reason people breed them to be aggressive is because of how powerful the dogs are. They are pretty much pure muscle, but if you meet one the wasnt made to be aggressive they are very loving and gentle dogs. I have never had one act aggressive towards me.

I was bitten by a dog before when I was small. It could have been a pitbull and I did have to get a rabies shot, but I'm pretty sure I was bugging it.
User avatar #195 to #190 - EvilFluffyBunny (12/04/2011) [-]
I got bitten by a boxer once, but that was because he thought I was attack the girl walking him. I was watering the restaurant's flowers i worked at, and her and the dog were walked by. When they were next to me I had yanked the hose and the dog thought I was swinging at her and snapped at my hand. The girl was majorly apologetic. I just said no biggy and that i knew he was protecting her. Went in washed the blood of my hand and went back to what I was doing. I have been bitten in the face by a smaller dog before. But I am not afraid of dogs. I know enough about their behavior to know why I had gotten bitten each time.

I don't like dogs in general e.g. having to walk them and if you keep them in the house they have to poo and pee on something and its not a litter box. Thing is that I've had a cat that would never attack us even when we were harassing them e.g. throwing them or pulling their tails or pushing them off chairs (I was really young with this one cat). I'm guessing that the dog wasn't trained to deal with children that well, so knowing that I was coming over, the family should have kept the dog away.
User avatar #199 to #196 - EvilFluffyBunny (12/04/2011) [-]
That can happen with older dogs who aren't used to kids. Little kids can be very rough and some older dogs don't like that and will tell you to stop like they would a puppy i.e. bite or snap at you.

I found this cute little guy out side of my work caught in a fence crying his little butt off.. This poor thing was probably left to die because of it's breed or because it was unwanted..

Now look at my baby boy who still thinks he's a lap dog. A year and a half later he's the most loyalist dog on this earth.. Sleeps with me every night and an amazing cuddlier.. How can you turn down this happy face!
