God for over 2 hours. At the end of it all, he pondered for a

I don't know exactly how long I've played Skyrim, and I haven't played since the 18th (finished AC Revelations and Saints 3), but at one point I played it for about 36 hours in one sitting (short bathroom/food breaks only).
I'm not sure if I should be proud or ashamed.

The difference between my hate for religion and religions intolerance is they expect us to tailor laws to them and infringe upon others rights. To be fair, heres a short list of Atheists who have killed millions of people: Stalin, Mao, Hitler (debatable on his religious views however), Pol pot. Now, most of those atheists were misguided because of skewed, immoral understandings of evolution (namely eugenics) and politics.
However, also to be said, there were religious people who supported the same agendas. Fitter families for georgia for instance was composed of lots of Christians and supported eugenics. And there were lots of german Christians who were supporters of, or apathetic to Hitler's reign.
I think its misguided to blame either side as "more evil" then the other because both sides have used wrong interpretations of otherwise harmless literature or science for an agenda to fit their immoral ideals. There are going to be ****** up people from any religious or nonreligious group.

Tl;dr: Its unfair to just blame one group of people for the actions of a few ****** up extremists.

Tl;dr:Tl;dr: I am anon, so you shouldn't give a **** what I say.

Yes, four (or three) atheists who killed millions, but they didn't kill in the name of atheism, they had other reasons. Now, many wars have been fought and are still being fought in the name of god, wars that have collectively killed more humans than those four people combined.
I'm not saying anyone is "evil" here either, but to be fair again, the crusades were certainly not just "a few ****** up extremists". The Pope and the Catholic church raised and funded the armies of Christians while the Muslims already had a theocratic empire.
Yes, during the present day it's only groups such as Al Qaeda and the Irish Republican Army. As Mr. Marx said, "Religion is the opiate of the people."

I'm not saying murder is right under either of those circumstances, but which one seems more logical (if any)? Considering one is an oxymoron I think the answer is clear.
In any case, mass murder has always been about wanting more power, money, and land, regardless of whether religion was used as a reason or not.

Well all that might be true, but my only point was that science is my view because i think it's the most peaceful thing to believe in. You know what? im tired of this bull ****. how about anyone with a religious opinion just shut the **** up. athiests, we get it. you think youre right. well we all do. so quit being self righteous assholes and recognize that religion is an opinion, not a fact. you dont believe in god, so stop acting like you are one. now onto christians. despite whatever your pastor told you, it is not your duty to convert every person you see to your religion. as a matter of fact, they think its unbearably annoying. so you too need to stop being so preachy and realize that not everybody wants to hear your opinion. muslims, buddhists, any other random religions, i havent heard much from you, but if you talk **** about other peoples beliefs, then can it. by the way, since i mentioned muslims, we as a society need to stop judging an entire group of people by a small portion of them. that means muslims cant be stereotyped as terrorists, christians cant be described by the actions of the wbc, athiests have hitler, stalin, pots, etc. newsflash fj. not every muslim wants to kill people, not every christian is a bigoted asshole, and not all athiests are murderers. what you believe has nothing to do with your actions. muslims dont fly planes into buildings, assholes do. how fair would it to be to judge all canadians by justin beiber, when canada has brought us great entertainers like jim carrey, will shatner, will arnett, seth rogen, all rush members, i could go forever listing guys like this. its unfair and biased, and it needs to end now.

so assholes, thumb me down, call me mad, dont read, i dont give a ****. i am just sick of this crap, and all these bigoted comments getting dozens of thumbs, and all this unfunny content (not necessarily this) getting frontpage because of a bunch of retarded, hate filled, spiteful religion fanatics who thumb up/down anything based on what they believe. and i know im not the only one who thinks this.

This is the saddest thing i've ever read. You took 10 minutes of your time to write your opinion when it actually doesn't matter. It's the internet, everything here is a joke. We know that not all people are like that, and you just wasted your time telling us that.

"despite whatever your pastor told you, it is not your duty to convert every person you see to your religion."

Mat ch 28:17-20
Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them.

17 And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted.

18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

So which one is right about Christianity, you, or the Bible?

theres a difference. its suttle but its there.

jesus is essentially saying to spread the message of christianity and teach the uneduacated about it. he said that back when this was first started and no one even heard of christianity. if someone like an athiest has rejected the idea of god, and knows the ideas and concepts behind a god, then all youre doing is shoving something they dont want down their throats. and besides, the internet is probably the worst place to spread christianity, so idk why you would.

still, i wont thumb you down, as you bring up a valid idea

Did Christ say to only spread the Gospel and teach it only where people have never heard of it? No.
Did Christ say to force people to hear the Gospel, repent, and believe? (Matthew 10)
No.
Did Christ say anyone could know his Father and not know Him? (John 10:1-21)
No.

Not trying to be difficult, I'm just don't want you to get what Christ taught misconstrued.
Thanks for being respectful.

first off, no problem, id be a hypocrit if i didnt do otherwise. and i respect your bible knowledge

still, times have changed. thanks to constantine, christianity became popular throughout europe, and that led to it being practiced in the us. constantine ruled an empire where he could force people to practice a religion (although im not positive he did, but he definately had a significant influence). if obama tried to make every american christian, everybody would go *******. what im getting at is that you cant just shove your beliefs down everybodys throats. in fact, if youre going to spread christianity at all, be a decent person. do the 2nd commandment and people will get the idea. do what the wbc is doing (although i hope youre not that extreme about it) then you will probably get shot. thats how you spread the word of god properly, not by telling everybody "believe this mofo!"

and fukkin saved that elephant picture

Glad to hear it sir, once again thanks for being respectful.

Constantine did force everyone to be a Christian, no joke, he said "Okay everyone is Christian now and all the pagan temples are now Christian, so be Christian now, or die.
Which is not right, I cant think of a specific scripture to back it up, but I never remembered Christ forcing people to believe that He was the son of God.
He simply offered Himself to everyone as a way to life, those who believed believed and vice versa, no big deal.
A lot of Christians, especially the ones with apologetic knowledge, are very prideful, they do want to show you Jesus, they want you to see how smart they are and bow down and worship them (I know nothing about that...).
We forget to be gentle, respectful, patient, and understanding concerning the fact that most people do not look at the world the way we do and that they probably do not want to.

As for WBC they are not Christians, they are constantly showing nothing but hate and intolerance fruits that a true Christian would bear (Galatians 5:22-23 + Mat 7:15-20 + 1 John 4:8). They not only show intolerance to gays but even to other Christian making signs that say "Your pastor is a whore", even though this is true for many pastor in the American Christian world, to assume it is true for all is judgmental, mean spirited and an insult to God himself (Exodus 16:7+8).

I'm a Christian, and I'm with you on this one. IF you believe everything in the Bible, then you should be doing everything you can to "convert" everybody, but if they don't want to hear it, then shoveling it down their throats is counterproductive. My philosophy is that most people aren't going to be immediately receptive of it, so the best way to "convert" them or whatever is to show them the difference it has made them in my life by being as good of a friend as I can be and respecting their wishes when it comes to not talking about religion.

Religion doesn't have to involve worship of deity. Religion is a set of a widely held beliefs that serve as a moral guide, connect humanity to spirituality and explain the origins of humanity or the universe.

Good rant, I agree almost full-heartily. The reason some Atheists express Atheism so much isn't because they are self-righteous, it is because religious people don't see religion in the same light we do. I understand that it is their own beliefs but if those beliefs are corrosive and in some cases abusive then they shouldn't be tolerated. Like if a parent takes their child to their church all the time. Children should either be educated in all religions so they can decide or have no religions in their life at a young age so they can decide later. If the only way for a religion to be believed is to have impressionable children indoctrinated at a young age then it probably shouldn't be believed. If the religion really is a sound one that makes sense than an adult should see that clearly and make the choice to join it. Religion is also very corrosive in the sense that it can dilute someones reasoning. There was a man in the USA who was a rising geologist, top of his class and highly intelligent, with a bright future ahead. But when he noticed that his research directly contradicted his faith that his parents brought him into at a young age he turned his back entirely on his career. If a very intelligent man such as himself can be sucked away from logic by religious indoctrination, then how are children and the more average expected to make learned decisions for themselves? Just thought I should elaborate more on the whole "Atheist" thing. Also, it is quite likely that Hitler was Christian. He gave numerous speeches thanking God. He also constantly talked of how his survival of so many attempts on his life were divine intervention. He also maintained connections with the church throughout his rule over Germany. But keep in mind that association is not linked to causation, just because he was associated with something doesn't mean he did what he did because of it. Not that this casts a bad light on anything, just a historical inaccuracy I noticed.

3. i do understand it. outside the internet, it probably sucks to be an atheist, and i respect your cause
4. having expirienced the forced religion thing first hand by my hardcore catholic parents, i completely agree with the whole kid thing. for 16 years, i never had a doubt in my mind about there being a god. now im 17, and im currently agnostic, and will probably stay that way for the rest of my life. and i hate it. still, i think im going to allow my kid to experience various religions and see what he believes. then again, thats not happening for another decade, so who knows what ill be thinking by then.

there was actually a post a few weeks ago that stated that there are four types of people when it comes to christianity and atheism. there are asshole atheists, asshole christians, normal atheists, and normal christians. normal atheists know that others believe different and don't call those people retarded for believing. normal christians realize there are people who believe differently, and they know better than to force their religion onto non-believers.

asshole christians and asshole atheists are assholes about it.

**alanthewhite rolls 714,029,182** Religion united the greatest countries in Europe. Atheism made the Soviet Union. I'm not hating on Atheism, I'm just saying that there is two sides to the coin.

And religion pushed Science back 2,000 years. (Dark Ages.)

Also, Stalin was Atheist, yes, but he didn't make said choices because he was Atheist.

Now, Hitler, a very religious person, He killed all the Jews for revenge for Jesus.

See the difference?

**alanthewhite rolls 001,080,682** Hitler claimed to have many reasons to kill Jews. This included:
-They were the reason Germany lost WWI
-They are the inferior race
-They are stealing land that belongs to Germans
-They are taking Germany's wealth
etc etc
Your reason for Hitler's massacre is new to me. Where did you read it? I'd like to know.

Look up his speeches. One of the ways he was elected was by telling the German people he was a devout Christian. Afterwards he used it as one of his many excuses to be rid of Jews. Whether he really believed it or not I don't know, but he definitely said that he did.

Welcome.
Some officials who were close to him reportedly heard him say he didn't believe in God, but none of these were on the record. He was raised Catholic, anyway.

The Dark Ages were caused more by the massive destruction of the bubonic plague and the collapse of the Roman empire and civilization because of invading barbarians.

Science was pushed back in the Dark Ages, sure.

At the same time, the Muslims were making radical breakthroughs in the field of science and mathematics at roughly the same time.
