It's not "teaching" them anything.
It's telling them to sit down and shutup for a record of five minutes while you try to deal with the clusterfuck of other problems you have to deal with as a parent. You are leaving out a child's mentality. if you said for example i do not like that person because they did such and such once, You are unwittingly teaching your child that the person you do not like is a bad person and they will not like them either. The same rule applies, Whether it be you a teacher or your priest, by saying "Do not talk back to me" you are teaching them that you are far more intelligent than they are and you already know what they did because you are a genius, Therefore any attempts at explaining their actions are futile.
Where in reality me and you both know the only reason you say it is because you have the power to exact punishment if the person you want control over will not obey your command.
Maybe try teaching your kids to speak their mind when conflict comes knocking on the door instead of nodding and quietly accepting whatever dribble it is that spews from your mouth for the simple fact that you are older than them whether it be right or wrong... and maybe just maybe your children would not be such materialistic pricks that cry when they do not get their own way.

No, you presumptuous little twit. If I tell one of my kids to "quit talking back," it's exclusively a way of telling them to shut up for a few seconds while I'm trying to deal with actual problems. This is the sole purpose of the "because I said so" trick. Believe it or not, parents don't typically enjoy punishing their kids. I'm sorry if the idea that someone who exercises arbitrary control over you for the sole purpose of making everyone's life a little easier tarnishes your high opinion of yourself. I make every attempt to teach them life lessons when I get the chance. The "child's mentality" that you seem to have a psych-101 grasp of doesn't render a child incapable of generalization. It can be interpreted to teach anything. I honestly can't say I've heard of a child growing up to be spineless because their parents didn't give them a reason for every decision.
It has nothing to do with opinions, it has to do with cost, time, and safety. If I tell them that they can't go out somewhere because I either have no way to make sure they're safe or I don't know enough about where they want to go, and I'm trying to juggle our conversation with feeding a baby, I honestly don't find further explanation of the scenario necessary.

So what about the scenario where a child has been told not to talk back just quietly nod and accept your wisdom all through school by teachers and then at home by you.
