Me and another AP Psychology student were walking through our local mall and came across a guy selling these. I've done taekwondo for years, and he's done lacrosse and running and about any school sport you can think of, so we decide to give it a shot and see what trick he uses to make it seem effective (like pushing down on your arm differently to make you keep or lose balance). We did the test, and for some reason it worked. We marked it down to a clever placebo effect (if you think it works, it does). I go home that evening and tell all this to my dad, who owns stores in the mall, and gets massive discounts on anything he buys there. The next day he comes home wearing a blue one and tosses me a black and gold one, and just says "don't tell your mother". And hey chances are it does nothing whatsoever, but if a placebo causes positive effects, why stop.

For any of you who dont understand how they work, its like when Harry pretended to put some luck potion in Rons drink. Ron got really good at Quidditch because he thought he was going to do good.

> Quarterback on my high school football team wears one
> I make fun of him for it
> He says my hardest hit can't hurt him, because of the bracelet
> He is 40 pounds lighter and 3 inches shorter than me, since I was a defensive end
> First play of practice, I basically throw him
> Dislocated shoulder and he is crying like a bitch
> Best practice ever

Their marketing strategy is to approach their possible client, and have them do a balance test. The subject generally won't do all that well, since he doesn't exactly know how he will be tested. Then the same test is performed, but with the Power Balance on. The subject will almost always do better in the second test, but not because of the bracelet. It is because the subject now knows the test, and will adapt to resist the same test.

It's not really that they are stupid, it's just a big magic trick.

"Power Balance® is now involved in a class action suit alleging they mislead the public and used false advertising to market their products."

I'm wearing one right now.

I know they don't work, I knew it before I bought it, but I just wear it because I'm just a giant douche bag.

for those who don't know, the bracelet supposedly contains negative electrons which flow through your body, calming your nervous system and basically giving you more strength and balance. The tests of balance and flexibility actually work, but its only because they have you wear the band the SECOND time you do the activity--after you've already stretched for/practiced the activity during the example without the bracelet. Also, don't knock it till you try it, I've felt better since wearing it just because of the placebo effect, even though the thing is a bunch of ******** . ******* .

These things actually work. My aunt got one put on her(she had no idea what the dude was even doing, he didn't tell her) so first he took made her close her eyes and he put his pinky finger pushed on her arm and she lost her balance. She wore that thing closed her eyes and he tried to push on her but she didn't even stumble. So for you non believers, she didn't even know what that thing was, and there was no writing on it because he markered it out. She bought one shortly after his demonstration though.

When she was pushed the first time she wasnt expecting the push. When he did it the second time she was expecting something and it was the push again so she stiffened up and didnt move thats why that happened

No guys,, it actually works. you see, by having your head up your ass, it lowers your center of gravity, giving you better balance.

I got a cheap knock-off version of one of these at a gas station for ***** n' giggles while drunk. The joke of the evening was that I possessed the athletic power of Shaun White, and randomly shouted "SHAUN WHITE POWER" with my bracelet arm in the air.

...yeah, I was really drunk. >.>
