Fgner (11/19/2011) [-] *sigh* So the real fact we die is because the human DNA contains telomeres. These are blank spots on the chromosomes, a buffer zone if you will. It allows for mistakes to be made as it splits during mitosis and not affect any part of the vital DNA. However, after massive a massive number of (or unlucky) replications, the chromosomes start ripping vital data off instead of this buffer zone. When too much is lost we reach the Hayflick limit. This is the point where the cells genetic information is so damaged, it no longer is capable of reproducing or the mitochondria undergo apoptosis. We regrow telomere of course, but only an enzyme called telomerase. However, this also greatly increases the chance of cancer. Our bodies made the trade-off long ago to turn off telomerase production so we would have a shorter life that wasn't riddled with cancer. How does oxidation have to do with this? Oxidation Stress can greatly affect the location of the tear in the chromosomes as well as damage the telomerase production. It can also just cause cells to shut down or become cancerous. Wrinkly Old people are like that only because the percentage of water composition goes down, about 55% on average, rather than the 80% of adults. The less water means less plumpness of cells which mean everything gets skinnier. The wrinkles are essentially the same thing as when a really fat person gets liposuction and they have that flab of skin left over! YAY!

if all of use wore oxygen masks 24/7 our population would most likely live into the hundreds, but the one problem is oxygen is VERY addictive, so once u use and oxygen mask for a long period of time, your body wont be able to breathe without it.... therefor... killing us.... so basically to sum it up....
