actually what i think it was is people invented the stories of religion because they didnt have the science we have now to answer questions (and we still cant answer them all!) its how stupid people feel secure.
then one day...
an asshole came along and was like "HEY YEAH YOU KNOW THAT GOD GUY?!? YEAH WELL HE UH... TALKED TO ME! AND WAS LIKE!! 'HEY! I GOT THEES RULES HERE THAT YOU ALL HAVE TO FOLLOW OR ELSE... UH.... YOU BURN FOR THE REST OF ETERNITY WHEN YOU DIE.... YEAH!" my theory

So sad you think you know, religion in the BC era was just there so people thought they were sure about something. In AD however, it was made by greater minds at the time to keep people in line. For example- "thou shall not steal." or "don't eat pork" (it was infected at the time in some areas) in some religions.
