it's either 9(2y-4) or 18(2y-4) you can figure the rest out. it's generally easy, i just forget if you multiply or add 3 and 6. I know you multiply the two inside the parentheses.

Hi! I so appreciate everyone here helping out! I got the answer, it is 7

3(y-4)+6(y+1)=57

3*y = 3Y
3*-4 = -12
(3Y-12)
6*Y = 6Y
6*1 = 6
(3Y-12)+(6Y+6) = 57
3Y+6Y= 9Y
-12+6 = -6
57+6 = 63
63/9 = 7

nevermind, i realized after i posted this that you actually carry the number outside each parenthese inside them. I've been out of high school too long. I'm suppose to be a music teacher? HA!
