-In the Simpsons Movie, Flanders points to the borders of Springfield, this is just a joke considering he points at 4 states really far from each other. Just because he says Maine, doesnt mean it cant be IN Maine.
-In "Behind the Laughter", "Northern Kentucky" was replaced in every re-run with a different state.
The quality is a little blurred because I had to shrink the file so many times to have it fit into 10.0MB
If this post is unsuccessful, I will be really disappointed

Guys, you don't realize. Not only will this shake the internet and particularly the Simpsons fans(ites), but it's ours! As in, it came from funnyjunk to funnyjunk! We got genuine awesome mindblowing content, and not from 9gag or any other dumb site! This is, like, the anti-repost!!!

I remember seeing Flanders point out to Bart (in either the movie or one episode) all the states bordering Springfield. I think they were Ohio, Texas, Maine and Kentucky.
Springfield doesn't exist in the way we think it does. It's not JUST in one state. It exists in all the states and none of them at the same time.
THEREFORE: Springfield is the Tardis.

The writer of the Simpsons was born in Portland and raised in Springfield Oregon. I would congratulate you on your well planned research but fact of the matter is the answer is simply that Matt Groening wished to write about the working class family having grown up in a working class neighborhood on the outskirts of Eugene in Oregon where he places his stories.

2 crucial points
1. there was an episode Sideshow Bob tried to kill Bart at the 5 corners. this is just silly, but it suggests that Springfield is a nonreal place
2. in the simpsons movie, Flanders takes Bart on a walk and shows him the 4 bordering states. these states were Ohio, Nevada, Maine, and Kentucky. these states dont touch at all. therefore, Springfield is a mythical place, like Narnia
or it could be a parallel universe.
