Well there are games like Halo which is science fiction. So if someone says Halo is unrealistic, they can't back it up, because no one knows what war will be like 542 years in the future.

I would agree with you, but, as I said, we can't see that far into the future. So you can't prove that we have made very little advancement in weapon technology. Besides, judging by the fact that lead scientists believe human evolution is increasing at an exponential rate, we probably would not be able to comprehend the technology used in the year 2552. And what fun would it be to play a game with weapons that don't make sense.
Additionally, because humans had formed peace amongst themselves, with very little opposition, there would be no real need to produce more effective weapons, as they had met no threats in the universe preceding the Covenant.
Sorry, didn't mean to go off there. Just backing up my original statement.
