Eh, I listen to The Beatles and Lil' Wayne. Do I think just because someone is not as good as arguably the greatest band of all time I can't listen to them? No, that's stupid. Do I think Lil Wayne is close to the level of The Beatles? No. Would I rather listen to The Beatles? Yes, but it doesn't mean I have to hate every other musician/artist.
Only problem I have is when people say that The Beatles are "nothing special" and were "just like every other band in their day".

dude i was thinking at the exact same thing today while i was taking a dump ( face it your brightest thoughts comes when you're on the throne), and then i started to think... "wait a minute, we see the beatles as the greatest band of all time, because they were the most successful band of their time, and they had an awesome melody (not always the best lyrics), etc etc" nowadays we look to the beatles as a mark of an generation... then one thought came to my mind and it ruined it all... nowadays shitty musicians like Lil' wayne Justin Bieber, Katy Perry Miley Cirus etc are the most successful musicians of our generation, and that made me think... will our kids look up to them they way we look up for the beatles, ray charles, johnny cash, elvis and other fucking great musicians... and most importanty... were those great musicians we love today... hated by most of the people? i don't know if you can understand it or not... my english is pretty poor and I don't think i made it very clear... anyways just wanted to share my thoughts
Maybe, it seems what is lost in music is I'll say I like AC/DC, for example, and they're suddenly bad because they were popular. Its not just hipsters anymore, I'm always told that bands are only seen as "good" because they're popular. The difference between The Beatles and Katy Perry? The Beatles endured. To me, that is the sign of good music. Good music endures, its not just popular in its time, its popular in all times. I always liked The Beatles because I think they never got old. They did start out as some pop band, but they evolved. They were rock, they were classical, they were pop, Sgt. Peppers lonely hearts club band almost sounds like rap. Penny lane has a trumpet solo. They kept making good music and, albums like Sgt. Peppers, Magical Mystery Tour, and Abbey Road still remain some of my favorites. People say The Beatles weren't anything special, to me they are. Not to mention what they did for music. Fuck the haters, Lennon/McCartney is the greatest song writing duo of all time, George Harrison is one of the greatest guitarists, and Ringo is a damn good drummer.

Yeah, they're not nothing special. They're terrible. They were a terrible pop band that exploited the exact same chords and strings along with lyrics aimed at attracting the tweens of the day. They're only slightly better than the Jonas Brothers because the Beatles has a psychedelic phase later on.
The Beatles started off as a skiffle band. They did pop, rock, classical, psychedelic rock, and ballads. You hate a band because of their genre? The fact is they were good, does it matter their genre. You haven't listened to enough of them if you don't know how they evolved. They weren't just a boy band when they wrote some of their best albums, like magical mystery tour, abbey road, and rubber soul.
Then again, they didn't "shred" and weren't "hardcore" enough, so they probably were shit. I'm guessing you've never heard Blackbird, either huh?
