I'm sorry, but I have to say as a teacher, I hate shit like this. And I think it's worth throwing out there that people who do stuff like this are normally the people who act aloof and above it all when in reality the majority of others just think they're a prick.

Sorry, I've had a long day of people like this who all think they're being edgy and daring when they're really just being fucking irritating.

Well I mean I was not a fan of the class or teacher. And most teachers that I've had don't read those anyways. Waste of paper and my youth.

But I understand where you're coming from.

:)

It is fine :) And on reflection perhaps my comment was a little harsh too, it's just that I have had a day of parents asking me the same inane questions and forms like this all over the place (School's just started here) and I'm like a coiled spring xD

deal with it

It takes all of my mental stamina not to bitchslap students like this.

Then quit.
User avatar #177 to #170 - NiceMelons (09/08/2011) [-]
Why would I quit? Because I spend my time frequently irritated? If I quit every time I got annoyed with something I wouldn't have got far past crawling, I don't think.

you know whats ironic today there was a question on my chemistry homework that asked something about converting yards and kilometers in a word problem saying that Sam and Frodo were descending a from a rope of X yards and 12.4 kilometers into Mordor...and you gonna be angry of what I wrote...
"One can not simply descend down a rope to Mordor."
User avatar #150 to #142 - NiceMelons (09/08/2011) [-]
I must admit, I'd have to high-five you secretly for that one.

Do the Reimann Hypothesis
User avatar #128 to #120 - feelinblue (09/08/2011) [-]
TL;DR

They're just as annoying to write as they are to read.
#126 to #120 - feelinblue (09/08/2011) [-]
I understand your annoyance at this, but I have to say this in the defence of (some) students and as a college student myself.

Doing these things frankly gets really annoying. I remember having to do at least 5 or 6 of these, especially when 2 of my tutors lost two copies. (each)

They feel ridiculously pointless when they're given to you and (I don't know about your school, but in my old one) they usually just get shoved in the back of a file to go with a bunch of coursework on another ridiculous subject like "Citizenship" or "ASDAN" and have no actual affect any coursework or tests which actually matter. Even when said subject takes time away from a useful subject like Physics.

But again, I do understand you, it must get frustrating having to read these all the time and knowing that the student in question is just a tool thinking that they're awesome.

Oh and obviously, they're a lot more important in college, however I'm referring to having to do them in secondry school, etc.
User avatar #132 to #126 - NiceMelons (09/08/2011) [-]
This is genuinely why I refuse to be a personal tutor; I think this kind of thing is pointless for both pupils and staff. It's some formality of "They need to find themselves, evaluate their decisions etcet. etcet." No. Kids don't need forms to find themselves.

That being said, most of my students who have done these hate them also, but they do just get on with it, I think it's the occasional smugness, to be honest.
#144 to #132 - feelinblue (09/08/2011) [-]
This tutor's going far.

I went to a fairly shitty public school, so the students often reacted very badly to these sort of things. I know it must be a nightmare sometimes.

Anywho, thumbs for you. :)

Sorry for the late reply, a fucking huge moth just flew in my face.

And yes, I have regular correspondence with them. Unfortunately. :D

I was actually on the test year for it, 2 people in my entire year passed. Not even kidding.

When we took the test, it asked things like "How many people sit on X type of bench in the magistrate court?". Nothing had prepared me at all for that. An invigilator at the front of the room took a look at the test when everybody had finished and was watching the clock tick the last 45 minutes away. She just shook her head at it.

I know one student made a fairly impressive flipbook out of his test. A rocket ship blasting off of the page. He still failed, unfortunately. Funnily enough, that was the only test I failed. Means I can't say that I 100%'d all of my GCSE's on my CV or anything. :'/
User avatar #184 to #178 - NiceMelons (09/08/2011) [-]
I'm not a fan of these kinds of things, do you have to do Work Skills? Easily a contender for most pointless two days in my teaching career last year.
User avatar #185 to #184 - feelinblue (09/08/2011) [-]
Is that similar to the enterprise day thing?
User avatar #186 to #185 - NiceMelons (09/08/2011) [-]
Similar, but worse. We were given a sheet that read "If students struggle with answering questions, allow them to read from the answer book". I basically ended up dictating about 40 pages of "I want to be a caretaker because I am eco-friendly and I can utilise my eco-friendly blah blah flshmah" to a group of 64 students struggling to keep their eyes open.

BUT on a lighter note, we got a new whiteboard, so woop-de-fucking-doo :D
User avatar #187 to #186 - feelinblue (09/08/2011) [-]
Ahh, I remember doing something similar. Don't remember the name of it, but I ended up doodling a picture for most of the 2 days. I don't know who thinks it's useful to anyone, they're either living in a different more ideal world or they're just a highly cynical person.
User avatar #188 to #187 - NiceMelons (09/08/2011) [-]
It's a government thing; youth unemployment is high, I know! Let's drone on about how to write a CV, so hundreds of students all have identical CVs and no-one can get work! Fab.

I may be a bit old to say this, but fuck the government.
#189 to #188 - feelinblue (09/08/2011) [-]
I can only agree with you on that; Fuck the government indeed.

A friend from my college had to stop attending (Or start setting off from home at about 6:30 and walking) because they missed his EMA one week, so he couldn't afford the bus for the week. Because of that, they wouldn't give him the next weeks until he got employed, which was difficult for him because he was in college 4 days a week with me. Surely they understand what they're doing. Creating a class system and driving as big of a wedge as possible between classes.

I'm gunna grab some sleep, I need to kick my routine back in, I start again on Monday.

It was great talking to you, glad to know that some teachers know that the system is still to far from perfect. Heck, to far from operational.
User avatar #190 to #189 - NiceMelons (09/08/2011) [-]
And I'm glad to have found a student with such sound knowledge; good on you! Just remember this; never settle for second best where politics is concerned, it's the young that can change things, if you want it, take it!

Speaking of which, I should sleep as well, I have a double session in about five hours.

I just see it as unnecessary, as cruel as it sounds, you just have to suck it up and get on with it. Do people think that teachers get on well with their students? There are a couple of mine that I cannot stand, but from a professional and social point of view you just have to deal with it. That's life, I'm afraid.
