What the fuck does "selling out" really entail? If you're talking about the style of music specifically, which is what a lot of my friends talk about, I don't understand what selling out has to do with it. I still like contemporary Eminem and Linkin Park, moreso Linkin Park since I listen to them more. Sure, both of them have noticably different sounds, but even if a band never goes mainstream, it's unlikely that they'll maintain precisely the same style throughout their entire careers. Did they change their style specifically to something that would garner them additional popularity? I'm not so sold on that, because how could changing from what made you popular be beneficial to you? As far as I can think of, Linkin Park is perhaps the most mainstream modern rock group, but did they conform to an already popular sound? What modern rock group used the same style as what Linkin Park changed to that was popular enough to be worth conforming to, that would make their agents and producers say, "Hey, let's try out this, it could make us more dough!"? I don't know enough about Eminem to attempt the same point, but I'm not convinced Linkin Park specifically just didn't change their sound because they wanted to. With how popular hip hop is these days, I can hardly see how cutting the amount of rap in their songs would help them. Fuck, I don't know. We don't know and we'll never know. Let's just enjoy music, damnit!

Linkin park was a band put together the way boy bands are put together, by a company who took each of them for their talents and placed them together and wrote their music, for teh sole purpose of making buckets of cash.

Linkin Park was founded by three high school friends, all of whom are still in the band today. Their roster is mostly the same as it was before they ever got a record deal.

Eminem didn't change his sound to get more popular. He used to be a drug addict and a poor white kid from Detroit, that's what he would rap about. Now he's a millionaire and he went to rehab. Eminem raps about his life, and his life isn't what it used to be anymore
