I hate how I was an idiot and got fat when I have asthma and now working out is a bitch.

Anyone know if lifting weights is as good as running everyday, cause that's what I've been doing.

anon below me pretty much scored it perfectly. Doing both cardio and weight lifting, doing weights on a muscle group (1-3) one day, and cardio the next. The truth is, doing SOMETHING is burning more than nothing, so keep up doing SOMETHING. Keep that in mind, you'll feel great after. If you are paying for a gym to lose weight, I'd recommend P90X. It isn't in any way for fit people, but gets people extremely fit. Google it, it's everywhere. Look at youtube success stories. It works, and it's $120, beats paying for the gym, and tells you exactly what to do, eat, when, and how.

Keep lifting them weights! Less weight more reps for a leaner body, heavier weights less reps for bulkiness and strength.. but none of this matters if you dont DIET! Throw out the **** food... No fast food, less bread, more fruits, more chicken, turkey. HIGH PROTEIN DIET! And eat atleast 5 SMALL meals a day. And throw a lil cardio in there for endurance/fat burning and if you go to a gym with a sauna use it after your work out it will help loosen your muscles, clean your pores, and help burn fat.. If you want to see results quick buy a sweat suit those are brutal but effective. And the last thing! DONT GIVE UP KEEP WORKING OUT! JUST DO IT! Blah blah blah nike copyright

If you do it enough it may burn enough calories to keep you from getting fat, but if all you do is lift weights and you never do any cardio then you would be hindering your endurance and ability to run long distances. The fact that you're putting on weight (muscle) without training yourself to carry it doesn't help either.

If you can only do one, choose weight training. Anyone that tells you running or cardio is better is fooling themselves; you can easily lose weight that way, but I guarantee that you will lose muscle mass before fat. Lifting weights protects your muscle from deterioration, helps strengthens your bones, helps your burn more calories at rest (more muscle requires more energy) and stimulates the central nervous system.

I would recommend doing some light/moderate cardio a couple times a week as it helps to keep your heart strong and gets the blood flowing better for weight training.

ya when I started working out I was a little chubby but that all stayed after a year although some was replaced with muscle all i did was get 2x as strong but kept like all the fat. So i started running on the treadmill and swimming regularely that made me lose all the fat basically in a short period of time like 1/20 of the time i spent lifting weights

this is a very well known mistake. Lifting weights WILL NOT help you lose weight, a little but not a lot. Lifting weights will help you attain more muscle lean/mass. Running, swimming, and skating are the best exercises to help you lose weight. I recommend doing p90x if your trying to do both :) hope i helped comes from 4 years of experience

When you are weight lifting to lose weight i think i have said it three times in this thread now... Less weight more reps will get you there!

ummm did you not read what i said? lol i said lifting weight will help you gain muscle LEAN/mass. lifting weight can help you lose weight but it's not the best option if your just trying to cut some pounds rather then putting on muscle. Running, swimming, and skating are much better options to just drop some fat. it all depends are your goals buddy.

True and false. Working out in general will help you lose weight.

Cardio is good for conditioning and helps you burn more fat.

Strength training will help you attain more muscle and what not but it also burns calories longer. The average cardio workout will burn calories as you do it. Strength training burns calories even after you stop.

Plain and simple, do a combo of both.

trust me it takes time. i was a really fat kid growing up. im 17 185lbs i can bench nearly 300lbs :D nothing is going to happen overnight just keep training and things will turn for the better as long as you stick with it.
