In the book and movie, it [SPOILER ALERT] tells you that harry got the ability to speak Parseltongue and the ability to mind-meld with Voldemort because he had a part of his soul inside him, the Horcrux. When he dies and comes back, Horcrux is gone, ability is gone and then a few chapters later the war is over.
