Without that, our immune systems would all be succeptible to the exact same viruses and the human race as we know it would end. So..... yeah, we do need more than red...

Our hair color has nothing to do with our immune system. They're not even affected by the same genes. If you think two completely different parts of our DNA are connected in that way, then you need to take some basic science classes again.

Well, the chemical(or whatever, forgot what it's called, probably a protein) that gives redheads their hair color, and the tendency to have freckles, also seems to affect how sharp they feel some kinds of pain. Redheads have a higher chance of being afraid of dentists for that reason. So color aside, it might have some abstract repercussions, aside from the obvious need for genetic diversity of all kinds.
