No it's really not more complicated than that xcii.
Someone hacked it on a global level (cyber terrorism) after obtaining the masterkey. They sent numerous emails to PSN members (posing as sony employees) asking for account info due to a recent problems on servers. And hundreds of thousands accounts were hacked/deleted/banned.
That's the reason Xbox Live costs money, not to start a console war.

um no, sony was going to sue a guy who had made a jailbreaking option for the ps3 and they decided to file a class action lawsuit against everyone who used it by tracking the IP adress of people who jailbroke their ps3 which is an invasion of privacy and agiants one of the amendments. sony got away with that however due to the fact that they are sony
Not to mention there was a DMCA excemption that was passed allowing the exploitation of owned items from major production companies. Sony cannot sue from it, but if they prohibit from their PSN Policy then they can take necessary actions such as banning/suspension/warning. So there is no way any of that happened.
1. You can't "jailbreak" a Playstation. The word Jailbreak is exclusive to downloading Cydia on an Apple mobile product. Not a playstation.
2. Sony still haven't figured out who hacked the servers because it was a group of people who created a Sony Moderator Immitating account with the name "Anonymous," and they hacked PSN's domains, making it virtually impossible to track them by IP.
3. Even if your story was true it still doesnt explain why the Playstation Network was down.
4. None of what you said happened.
5. It doesn't really make sense either.
6. The fact that you said jailbreaking when referring to overriding PSNs fire walls with a masterkey proves that you have no idea what youre talking about.
7. this is getting really nerdy
