Wide shot groupings, not as accurate. Heavy ammo, slows you down. Large ammo, can't load as many rounds. Short range. Variable ammo, hard to replenish stocks.

Shorguns aren't as short range as one may commonly believe.

They are actually accurate at 50 m with shot and 100 m with slugs.

Yeah, it's true that slug rounds can help make it more accurate, and better weapons are becoming more common place. Regardless, most of the shotguns laying around that you may find will be your pappy's coon gun, NOT a NATO standard door-breaching, bean-bagging, hippy-slaying 12-gauge fuck-zooka. Oh, and "12 or 20"? GET FUCKING SERIOUS! 10, 12, 20, pretty much ANY fucking number your head can imagine. 2 3/4 in, 3 in, 3 1/2 in. And SABOT? SABOT?! STFU! How many SABOT rounds do you have sitting on your desk, right now? None? That's what I thought.

get a tight choke, sabot slugs effective at ranges up to 150 yards, slugs and shot aren't heavy at all, the guns are lighter in general, ammo is large but the shell casings can be reused, 125 yards is more than enough for someone untrained, variable ammo as in what? 12 and 20 gauge? reusable shell makes it pretty easy to replenish if you have gunpowder all you have to do is put quarters or shrapnel in it. Plus the alternative is most likely a handgun or a civilian rifle which wont always have the power to rip a second asshole in shambling bros.
