That's because atheism isn't really a single ideology. Different people who are atheist have their different beliefs... some of those beliefs have run along the lines of: Jews are not human and responsible for our problems; The Chinese are not human, and we can treat them however we want without a moral problem; I am more evolved than you, and therefore I have the right to enslave you. I don't really believe all atheists are like this, but the point is that ideology in itself doesn't start wars (unless the ideology is directly combative), people with bad intentions or even people with good intentions and bad reasoning do.

The Moorish Empire was a MUSLIM EMPIRE... Spain and the northern coast of Africa along the Mediterranean was occupied by predominantly Christians until the Moores began expanding westward out of the Middle-East, through Egypt, across Africa, and up through Spain.
