Evil is purely the result of human's free-will. The same free-will that "God bestowed upon us" (going by most mainstream religions). If evil is a side effect of something that "God gave us", then how could "God" be the absence of evil?

No no it's evil is the absence of God not God is the absence of evil. It would be like if I said that light was the absence of darkness.

Choice and Free-will are two different things. For the most part, people don't choose to be evil, but it is simply a result of being corrupted by power or desire. The ability to gain power or have desire is a result of us having free-will, which most religions teach was "given to us by God". If God "gave us free will", he also created evil.

Also, love is not a choice. You don't choose to love someone, it comes naturally. It, also, is a result of free-will. Hence why free-will and choice are totally different things.
