This pic is from the first episode of the Anime--when Ash received his Pikachu from Oak, it was in this ball. Oh, assuredly, it was only in the ball on-screen for all of 3 seconds or so, and to the best of my knowledge it was never recalled, but who knows how long Oak had it trapped in there before giving it to Ash?

Actually, when Ash (or Red, I suppose) first received his Pikachu it was in a seemingly one-of-a-kind Pokeball with a lightning bolt on it. Admittedly, it was never again recalled back into it, and I'm fairly certain neither Ash nor Red even HAVE a ball for their respective Pikachu.
