Why do you care if Americans use a different system of measurement in their everyday lives? For things that *matter* what system you use (e.g. science) we DO use the metric system. (I've NEVER done any lab activity in high school or college that told me to weigh something in pounds...always grams.) And why should we waste millions upon millions of dollars to convert all our road signs, etc. Our country has bigger problems, especially right now.

the funny thing is, even in the uk and ireland they dont use metric for everyday measurement (opting instead for things like feet and stone). Im sure the same goes for many other european countries.

it doesn't apply to other european countries, pretty much just the british isles still use feet & stuff in daily life. metric is much more pervasive in the rest of europe.
