Damn it Christian crusaders!

I wouldn't really say that's evidence... I mean, the Roman Empire might have crumbled anyway without the aid of Christianity and if you observe places in the east, they weren't much further than we were.

I mean, the only time Science was truly challenged was when it began to contradict what the bible said, but did realising that the Earth orbits the sun, we're not the centre of the Universe or that we evolved over time give us great scientific advances?

I'm no expert though, but I don't believe that Christianity really messed things up for us that badly. Who knows, maybe we'd be worse off than we are now.

it was mostly because of scientist being killed for speaking their mind about things that went against the teachings of the bible

the dark ages repressed science and caused fear and stupidity to be dominant in culture....so its all religions fault

That was the common misconception I was talking about. Religion never outlawed Science. They did oppose the theory of evolution and such and ban books that went against the bible, but when we talk about Science like physics, Chemistry, ect. Those were never oppressed.

The second comment made me lol, but I dont agree with either of you. I believe Roman religion would have put up just as many problems as christianity, as belief would clash with the desire for scientific advancement. It always will. Imagine if someone came up with a cure for immortality tomorrow. It'd be mental. Everyone would go crazy.
