You silly Americans, pedophile literally means someone who is attracted to feet.
I would be more worried about paedophiles, they're the ones who are attracted to children.

Don't believe me? Type pedophile into a comment and it gets underlined in red whereas paedophile doesn't.

I think the word you are looking for is Podophilia

User avatar #125 to #121 - jasontoddles **User deleted account** (02/12/2011) [-]
No, the word Dictionary is a noun so you put 's at the end.
User avatar #126 to #125 - Viridian **User deleted account** (02/12/2011) [-]
You're using the apostrophe wrong, it's only used in contractions and possessive contexts.
User avatar #127 to #126 - jasontoddles **User deleted account** (02/13/2011) [-]
But my spell check says that dictionaries is wrong and Dictionary's is right...
User avatar #128 to #127 - Viridian **User deleted account** (02/13/2011) [-]
Odd. Firefox says Dictionaries is right. Either way, 's is being misused. you're probably using it wrong, because Dictionary's should only be used in a sentence like, "the dictionary's cover was bent."
User avatar #129 to #128 - jasontoddles **User deleted account** (02/13/2011) [-]
I thought that at first but my Firefox said it was wrong, WTF?

User avatar #103 to #101 - jasontoddles **User deleted account** (02/12/2011) [-]
I'm guessing this was taken from an American dictionary.

it can be spelled either way, like color or colour...douche
#98 to #92 - genericaccount (02/12/2011) [-]
Then type "pedophile" into a comment. It gets a red underline
#108 to #98 - jaybwell **User deleted account** (02/12/2011) [-]

Perhaps your spell check is set to English (UK) while mine is set to English (US)? Just a thought.

are you talking to me?
User avatar #102 to #96 - jasontoddles **User deleted account** (02/12/2011) [-]
Well, technically I'm not talking but... yeah.
User avatar #109 to #102 - jaybwell **User deleted account** (02/12/2011) [-]
whats the point of your question?
User avatar #116 to #109 - jasontoddles **User deleted account** (02/12/2011) [-]
I'm just saying that obviously we Englishmen know a lot more about our own language than you Americans.
User avatar #119 to #116 - jaybwell **User deleted account** (02/12/2011) [-]
Do you Englishmen know how to use google? Do you also understand that once a word passes into popular usage and is entered into the dictionary then it is by all accounts a word?
User avatar #120 to #119 - jasontoddles **User deleted account** (02/12/2011) [-]
1) What the hell has this got to do with Google?

2) The reason you Americans don't know how to spell is because we sent most of our retards who didn't know how to read, write or pronounce words properly to America, they were your descendants.

That is how it is in England, not here. I'm sorry.
User avatar #86 to #79 - genericaccount (02/11/2011) [-]
Then why does it get underlined in red? It's an Americanism, but it's not technically correct. The word comes from greek and/or latin, I'm not completly sure. The suffix "phile" meaning "lover of" is preceded by a subject, eg. "hydro" giving hydrophile. The prefix pedo means foot, for example pedal and pedometer are derived from pedo. If pedophile means child lover then by extent a pedal is where you put children and a pedometer counts them.

I feel smarter now

I mean, I'm gonna double check this to be safe.

But assuming it's true, kudos on the info
