I think you're mistaken. He's normally closest to the rendezvous point were his crew picks him up after a week. (When they know where he is)

His crew is about 2-5 miles away, and a helicopter frequently flies by.

He keeps a 'panic button' gps on him, they always know where he is. They've shown it before AND he has said exactly what it is before.

It's exactly that though. A panic button. They don't know where he is unless he transmits a signal (in an emergency)

They don't work like that, he has to keep it on at all times otherwise if he gets knocked out....then he is dead.
