this is caused because deep water consists of layers of different temperature and salinity.  The "river" is just where a lot of salt has accumulated in that temperature level, making it look fuzzy and reflective from above.

This happens when salt water and fresh water mix together. The salt water, being denser, sinks to the bottom while the fresh water flows on top like an underwater river.
