the burying of the E.T. Atari cartridges is fact. literally NOBODY bought any of the games (save for maybe a few hundred out of a huge amount)

its not just that no one bought it, they produced more games than there were consoles, which is rediculous because they expected the game to so popular households would but more than one copy.

the game was beyond awful which was the reason nobody bought it.
they did make too many in the first place yes, but they had no use
for games that didn't sell.

personally, i don't think it's as bad as the general consensus makes it out to be, it's a good way to kill an hour or two, but i was just adding that tidbit to share.
