I enjoy it, but i cant help but notice problems that everyone is overlooking just because of the hype behind it. The shooting is hardly on the same scale as other 3rd person shooters, and having textures not load untill you crash into them is annoying, aswell as destructable objects not being destructable when seemingly indestructable objects are, solid 9 out of 10 at least, but not percect *gives IGN the evil eye.*

Why say its over hyped and that its not 10/10 diamond encrusted **** when half the game isnt even out yet. GTA Online dosent come out till the 1st, and people are so quick to judge. From every mission ive played so far, yeah the game isnt the most perfect game ever, but its a great improvement over every other GTA. As far as the series goes, its the best yet. People that say san andreas is still better are just people with too much nostalgia, San andreas was good, but this game is a definite improvement over it. And a much better game than GTA IV was.

tl;dr: GTA V is probably a 9 right now, and we only bought half the game, the multiplayer still has to come out, which will probably boost it up to a 10.

It might not be the most well-made game ever, but I tend to rate games on a scale of 1 to 10 based on how well I enjoyed the game. Not how well it was made. The Last of Us, to me, was a pretty boring game that was riddled with too many cutscenes and not enough gameplay. GTA V, however, provided me with a very solid single player that was fun, made me laugh, and I enjoyed every single mission unlike GTA IV where half the missions are car chases that involve you chasing a sports car in some piece of **** sedan. The game may not have the best graphics or driving or what have you, but I still enjoyed GTA V far more than I have enjoyed a LOT of games in the past couple years.

I'm not going to say that The Last of Us was 22.5/10, but I'll be honest: okay simply does not describe that game properly.
I have been a gamer for 12 years. I sat through a couple GTA titles, every Elder Scrolls post-Morrowind, and highly enjoy some Guild Wars/Dota 2 on weeknights, etc. But I'll put it bluntly; The game is the best game I can imagine a game achieveing right now. I don't want to bore you with the details and such, but if you ever get the chance, the bottom line is play the game. The orgasm people give it is well justified. I guarantee theblastradius hasn't played the game with where he is coming from, and simply put: you're missing out.
If you really want to know more or aren't sold yet, I'll show you all the review I think did it by far the most justice and I 100% agree with: www.youtube.com/watch?v=2rPWBlrqpFI&list=WLLkMniJNxmCFTtfoYttGQIP_fj8tlkdyx

Actually, I did play the game, from beginning to end. And from both a story and gameplay standpoint, it just felt like there was any element to the game I hadn't seen done a dozen times before. Did it perform well? Yes. Did it do anything particularly better than anything else? ...Not really. And that is why I said it was ok.
As for your having "been a gamer for 12 years", are we supposed to take that to mean you're some sort of expert? Because I've spent the better part of 2 decades with a controller in my hand, so by comparison I must be approaching sage levels. You've sat through Morrowind, I've explored the far corners of Daggerfall. You've enjoyed Guild Wars, I've played Warcraft before it even had it's own world. I cried at the death of a flower girl, cheered when lovers were reunited, and got severely ********** by a psycho reading my damn memory card. I've played both the best and worst this industry has to offer, from the vast fields of Hyrule to the hell pits of.... wherever the
**** the ET game is supposed to take place. But I'll put it bluntly; The Last of Us is an above average game that is being wrongly placed with titles like Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask and FF7 in the God tier of gaming. When it would be more suited to being compared favourably with games like God of War, GTA, or Arkham City. All very good games, and all at least contenders for game of the year when they came out. But none of them should ever be mentioned in conversation for "greatest game ever made".

Just another case of judging a game by how much fun you had with it. Just because you felt emotionally attached to the characters and story doesn't mean it's a good game. THE CORE OF A GAME IS ITS GAMEPLAY. Story and characters are icing on the cake. For ***** sake, NEVER JUDGE A GAME BY HOW MUCH FUN YOU HAD WITH IT. Judging a game should be from a neutral and logical perspective, not an emotional one.

Addressing the contents of the comments section. I'd give GTA V a 9.5, TLOU an 8.5 and Bioshock Infinite an 8.

The make and quality of a game doesn't directly translate into how much fun you have with it. Gothic 3 is a game that I'd give a 6/10 and I played that for about 60-70 hours. Starcraft 2, a game that I gave a 9/10, I spent playing for about 2 hours.

The problem with judging games by how much fun you had with it is your tendency to push your personal feelings towards somebody else and the cause of many flame wars.

Look at them for what they are than what they are to you, because the world doesn't revolve around you.

From on outside view this may be a logical approach to rating anything. However you forget to grade them on the basis of why they were created in the first place, which is to entertain. If you like and have fun with a game more then one of higher quality does that not mean the game has higher entertainment value to you? If a ton of people are telling you that they feel the same then does that not mean that your opinion is not completely biased? If your opinion is not biased and the game holds more entertainment value does that not make it the better game?

I have not played either game yet. No game deserves a perfect rating, but no game deserves to be graded on every value except entertainment value.

Spyro is a great game yet if we were to grade it on everything but entertainment Fable 3 would be the "better" choice.

I'm not saying it is wrong to grade entertainment values, what I'm saying is it is wrong to grade games according to entertainment values and push it on to the public. I'm not saying opinions are wrong. Opinions are the sole reason why I condone rating games on their entertainment value.

"This cake reminds me of my mother's cooking" is a purely personalized opinion. This is an observation on the individual's emotional experience than the quality of the cake.

"This cake has a smooth texture" is an opinion that is focused on the cake. Even though the individual is basing this on his experience, it is an observation about the quality of the cake. Whether or not people like smooth textures, the cake has it and you can't deny it.

Rating a game on it's entertainment value can be compared to the latter--an observation on the individual than the game. What may be fun to one isn't fun to the other. I'm not saying this because emotions are unimportant, quite the contrary actually. We must value everyone's emotions, hence we mustn't give it a score based on our own emotional response but an unbiased and logical one so that everyone may carry an opinion without conflict.

TL;DR- Emotional observations must be kept inside your mind; they are yours and yours alone to cherish. If you want to share an opinion, base it on logical though and neutrality.

I believe what he means is that you shouldn't give a game a perfect score solely because you thought it was fun or 0/10 because you didn't like it.

There are plenty of games I've had a lot of fun with, but I still recognize their flaws enough to know it's not a perfect game. Same applies to games I thought were terrible or just didn't enjoy, I'm not going to give it a 1 or 0/10 unless it was literally unplayable, as most games have at least one semi-redeeming quality about them.

Totally agree, I really didn't feel Last of Us deserved the good reviews it got. I mean yes, it was a great game and probably one of the best that came out this year. But the gameplay was nothing new from what other post-apocalipse games did, it was just a good storytelling game. It definitely explored a lot of the interaction of our emotions with the character development in the game, but honestly, not groundbreaking as people say it is. What separates games with other media is its interactivity and just like you I totally agree gameplay is most important.

I don't really have much of a opinion on GTA V since I am sadly a PC user and my ps3 is not working anymore. But from what I've seen in Twitch and people's reviews, I think its biggest appeal is the sandbox gameplay it has. I am not really attracted to the sandbox genre but I guess America/Europe tend to like these kind of RPGs.

Like you I would give BI an 8, Last of Us a 8.5, GTA V haven't played it so no score.

I don't see how Bioshock Infinite deserves GOTY either.
The ending wasn't that great. It tries to play itself off as a clever tie-in to everything, but when you actually think about it (and it really shouldn't be that hard), it's not clever at all.
The whole "it always starts with a lighthouse, and a man" premise is completely debunked by the fact there's only two actual super speshul cities in Bioshock: Rapture, and Colombia, and the debut game for Colombia was the one that held the ending. It's a rushed premise that never had proper build up.
The Bioshock Infinite we see in 2010 gameplay videos and demos comes off as something much more ambitious and deserving of the name "Bioshock" alone than what was received late 2012.
The entire premise of multi-universes is forced. Completely. Under no circumstances should that have ever been in a Bioshock game without proper build-up to it, and the 2010 expositions support the idea that this was a "just pulled out of the ass" concept.

My biggest problem with Bioshock Infinite is that it seems it only got the 15/10 praise it did was because it (wrongully) held the title "Bioshock" - the name of a game that's been associated with both innovation (System Shock 2) and artistic concept in video games (the first Bioshock). And I really don't think it should receive GOTY for that premise as well, because quite frankly, it really was a disgrace to the bar that was raised with the first and even the second game, and I hope the DLC will rectify that at the very least.

The only thing those two games have going for them are the story, and even then The Last of Us is just every single zombie cliche mashed up into one big ball in order to seem original. Bioshock Infinite had an incredible story but everything else was really weak and felt total downgrade from 1 (Except for the skylines, those were tits). In my opinion a story can't make a game, a game could be fun but have a bad story and you'd still want to play it because it's fun, on the other hand a game could have bad gameplay and a good story but since the gameplay is bad you aren't going to have fun playing it. Now i'm not saying GTA V should be game of the year but I do think that it has a decent story and incredibly fun gameplay and once the online is released it's going to blow everything out of the water.

I really didn't understand the amount of praise that The Last of Us and Bioshock Infinite got. The whole "You are actually the bad guy and the good guy" thing from Infinite is not an original idea, and The Last of Us didn't really deliver anything original or out of the ordinary for a game based around zombie-like creatures. Infinite's gameplay was pretty stale as well, considering at least half the vigors do more or less the same thing (stun enemies), and the guns were all just completely unexciting compared to the upgrades you could do in Bioshock 1 and 2. I'm not saying they were bad games, but they really didn't raise the bar for video games in any way. And call me crazy, but shouldn't video games be rated a little more highly for having good gameplay? Isn't the point of video games supposed to be that they are fun? Story most certainly adds a lot to the experience, but first and foremost the game has to be fun to play.

Without a doubt, Bioshock Infinite was a beautiful looking game especially with high-res textures on PC. I just didn't enjoy the game as much as I did with GTA V. What mostly killed Infinite for me was just the gameplay, plain and simple. The guns were really lack-luster imo and the vigors basically all did the same thing with a bit of a twist. It really hurt my overall opinion of the game, especially when I went back to play the other Bioshock games and noticed the massive difference. I felt like Bioshock had regressed in its overall presentation whereas GTA had conversely improved upon everything. To each their own, though

It's true that GTAV is kinda overhyped (Although I haven't played it, my friends say so and I've watched gameplays on youtube) Infinite is a great game for me (storywise) but gameplay wise its kinda good as the others. Last of us (haven't played too since i'm a PC player) is great, much like Infinite storywise.

Game of the years should be a balance between gameplay and story I think. A good mix between these two would make a great game.

I did a quick google of games that are GotY and most of them we're a balance between these two.

That is such an ill informed and casual gaming point of view, it's actually stupid. You can say you were somehow disappointed by GTA but saying it made addons for improvements is beyond understanding. No other game out there has a more alive world with actually functioning visuals and mechanics. Shame on hipsters for having to hate popular media. Its garage system is flawed and character switching isnt as free but it's not an 'addon' game. Last of Us is amazing, and bioshock is very good which I agree, but for the sake of opinion, I think GTA is better. OPINIONS

You guys need to stop the whole "Overhyped" complaints

Its not

but at the same time its not gonna win GOTY

GOTY is for the game that the industry can learn from in terms of new experiences.

Which is why Walking Dead won last year and Red Dead Redemption/Mass Effect 2 won 2010 despite Mario Galaxy 2 teaching devs how to actually make gameplay.

dude infinite wasn't as good as the first, its still a downgrade, so it shouldn't win. and last of us are people gonna ignore the crappy AI both human and infected? sure the story was cool, but story inst all a game is, people have switched so far into the other side, before everyone wanted game play, then it switched to pure graphics now its going to full story, if last of us wins them we may as well stop making games and just make movies that to have to un-pause every 5 minutes. betwine these 3 games, i hate to say it, but gtaV has the most complete story with decent AI and gameplay

WHat are you on about? I am not saying it needs great story. It's just GTA. Which is exacly the problem: It's a fun game. It's not a work of art. It's not revolutionary. It's all been seen before. It's pimped up graphics, with new cars and animales. Bioshock Infinite took the step of leaving Rapture and start something new. The Last of Us was bugged, I agree, it is a bit over hyped too, but it still had something to it than "Just Gameplay".

I have to disagree with you there. While The Last of Us had some AI issues, it was an amazing game and is equal to if not greater than GTA in terms of story writing, as well as having superior graphics -- which is a direct result of it not being as vast as GTA, but nonetheless. As for Bioshock: Infinite, the story was amazing, the graphics were welcoming, and the AI was brilliant. When compared to GTA 5, all of these games are on near-equal footing, but each excels in one aspect or another. While GTA's story was enjoyable, the gameplay was the same as every other GTA, the graphics may have been upgraded, but only slightly, not to mention the fact that the AI is relatively predictable and repetitive.

In short, the hype of GTA 5 is not warranted; the "new" elements that GTA 5 has introduced have been used in other Rockstar games in the past and the gameplay has not changed; and Bioshock: Infinite and The Last of Us are deserving of Game of The Year more so than GTA 5.

While I enjoyed GTA 5, it was only a new story and some shinies added-in. Bioshock: Infinite granted a new style of gameplay, not to mention the well-designed AI and story. Finally, The Last of Us provided us with a new take on the typical survival game with a compelling story and beautiful graphics. While the gameplay stylings of The Last of Us has been seen in the past, the story, in my opinion, greatly outweighs this fact.

While these are facts mixed with my personal opinions, I feel that your insinuation that Bioshock: Infinite and The Last of Us were unworthy of the "Game of The Year" title was unjustified and reprehensible.

i disagree.

the graphics were nice, as was the AI..
but the game was short, the story seemed like it needed some work, a lot of the areas looked alike and it was SO LINEAR..

the idea behind the story was pretty good, but because it was so short and needed work, the replayability is nil.

While I could list some places in which the story required some work, the game as a whole had me enthralled for the duration of time I played it. I must admit, it was quite linear, but at the time, from my perspective, it didn't feel linear -- only looking back on it now would I consider it as such.

In my opinion oh no, an opinion , Bioshock Infinite has one of the best story lines ever made by a game. The game play may have been only a little better than most, but the immersion and atmosphere of that game was incredible. Say what you will, but it's a contender in lots of people's books.

The point of a game is to have a mix of storyline, graphics, and gameplay most of all.

Bioshock only had story. And not even much of that. I went through it in six hours, it was linear as ****, and the ending wasn't even that great. Really, the only reason I even considered playing infinite was cause of the hype building up since like 2010

It wouldn't even be in the list of my GOTY nominations, much less the top contestants.

Although I absolutely love BioShock Infinite, I have to agree with you. It just doesn't contend for GOTY because the only thing it has going for it is the plot, which while good is, like you said, linear as ****.

It took me a solid 15 hours to complete that game first time round, and that's because I literally did everything you could.

I agree with you in one aspect though, it was to linear. There were no side missions or open world aspects, which left for very little replay ability.

To your point on a good game needing story, graphics, and gameplay, I think it had all of it, but at a bad ratio. Good story/ graphics, and pretty average gameplay

I would usually do everything in a game before completing the main mission if it gives me a reason to

Infinite did not. The linearity got to me and I just finished the game

I would place GTA's story telling at 10/10. The way the three character's backstory and character traits melt into one strong narrative a few great climaxes and a solid conclusion makes it stand out to me.

And that doesn't seem like a big deal to me, just because that's a basic storytelling convention. The only reason I'm still going on about this is just because I've always equated GTA to being the complete antithesis of story.

It'd be like if Schwarzenegger made a "Comando 2" and everybody was going on about its emotional depth.

Or if grown men started obsessing over "My Little Pony".

But it DOES have a story. And while having more than one character is a convention, it's clearly not a convention to have three points of view in the form of playable characters, or Last of Us and Bioshock Infinite would have had them. GTA's new narrative is more like the Song of Ice and Fire novels than Comanndo. Franklin, Trevor, and Michael all have something to contribute not just to the game play but to the story development.

Yeah but still, as far as we were concerned, it didn't even have a story since all the fun to be had is in the sandbox elements. My friends playing GTA 4, same deal, story was essentially non-existent, sandbox was where it's at. If a story can be completely ignored and not hinder the experience, I don't see how that warrants an 8/10. But that's just me.

I'm a huge fan of Fallout 3, but the story is small potatoes compared to the game as a whole.

"Bioshock ininite: Story:10/10, Gameplay: 8/10"
******* lol.
And you give Last of Us a 9/10 in story? Sounds like you should be a Game Informer writer

I blame the game itself.

Also, for a game that's called "Remember Me" its super ******* forgettable.

Okay fighting with a horrible dodge system, extremely linear, only has a couple of few good moments and clunky ass animations, especially with regards to climbing. I will give it cool visuals and original plot even though it has some pretty evident cliches. It's not a horrible game, but it was under the radar for a reason

I found the doge system pretty good, at least on PC
It was a very linear game, but thats just the type of game it is.

'doge,' I had to, besides that, pic unrelated to opinions since it's only gif I have. Perhaps if it used the memory rewind thing better and more frequently, I would have liked it more. I was just disappointed in it

I blame advertising, before it came out it didn't say if it was open world or what
I personally found some of the memory rewind **** hard and annoying at times, so i'm glad they didn't over do it.

Perhaps if they actually do a sequel, they could broaden and enhance the game. Can't really do much in the first title in a game.

If capcom desired, they could easily extend the plot even though the main antagonist is dead.

maybe, they would have to come up with a completely new story, they could pull it off. but i dont think the game was popular enough to get a sequel

Yeah it probably wont. It didn't pay off too well sales wise. Especially with capcom's high standards.
