How did anyone believe it was actually going to be a punt anyway? They're only 40 yards from the end zone.

That's a 57 yard field goal.

Even with a good kicker, the chance of making it is challenged by the possibility of missing and giving the opposing team great field position. Plus, this clip was from a preseason Hall of Fame game, so there's little to no risk taking in it.

I remember watching this game. Preseason games are quite fun with Jeff Fisher as the head coach. Never know what kinda stuff he's going to pull. Oh, and a little info for that....the punter ended with the most rushing yards that game.

It's fine. Under the normal circumstances the guy with the ball usually kicks it down the field but instead fakes a hand off to the guy who runs behind him by sliding the ball around his back and then while the defenders go after the guy who they faked the ball to, the punter (kicker) runs with it down the field for the score.
